I made this picture as a contribution for the "Windows" theme of the Scavenger Hunt.

Very near to the place where I live is a house where a potato seller used to have his shop. At this moment the house is used as a normal home, but some paintings on the outside remind us of its original function. The most creative example is this painting on the right side of the picture. The painter copied the looks of the real windows. And behind the painted window, we are looking at the famous painting of Vincent Van Gogh: "The potato eaters"! I think the result that the painter achieved is great.

I tried to catch this facade in the sunlight, but I found out that this wall is never lit by the sun. That's probably the best, otherwise the painting would faint in short time. But unfortunately this also makes the spot rather dark. I was standing on the opposite side of the street. This street is very narrow (a car and a bicycle can hardly pass), so I had to use a focal length of only 18mm to get this picture causing some distortion in the picture.

Tech: used skewing to get rid off a large part of the wide angle distortion, cropped slightly, desaturated the picture except for the painting, applied auto contrast, used USM (100,0.5,1) and added the frame.

Nice picture Michael, good pp.

Excellent idea for the hunt, Michael, very original again. Good choice of desaturating a part of it, although the green plants would be nice, too. You must have pressed yourself against the other waal, to get 3 windows on this pic!
Well done!

Hola MIke!

What an interesting and fine contribution you made to the hunt!

The street really seemed narrow from this point of view.

And the distorsion is visible but a good thing.

I like the bench right there...

K.

Great photo, Michael.

I like this composition it´s soo detail. The Post process work it's excelent, too.

Well done

Good composition. I like the desaturation work on this one.

Good hunt entry, especially with the painted window on the right.

An elegant and interesting picture. Your complete (and educational)note makes all the difference and is a model for other TE-ers who write brief notes or none at all.

A fine entry for the SH, Michael, and a creative idea with the selective desaturation. The brick patterns on the wall and above the windows are well rendered, and the bench and plants in front make a nice decoration (might also look good in color though, I think). Very well done.

Very good picture with great PP that enphasize the painted window, great composition.

Een zeer mooi architecture photo met een prachtig schilderij in het venster Gan, alles is zo scherp en duidelijk, en de combinatie tussen het Z/W en het kleur schilderij maakt alles netjes af. Zeer goed gedaan!

The real windows, the fake window... A great observation, a good participation to the Hunt. Very well thought and photographed Michael!

Your note reveals how dedicated you are to make a great image. Excellent PP.

Beautiful picture taking into account these windows with a fake one giving a nice differentce with the two others. It gives a nice sensation like something unforeseen appened to this façade. The B&W post processing excepted the painted window increases this sensation. Very well done !

I love this! This was so well-seen. Leaving just a little bit of color on that mural was very effective. It's very subtle but there's just enough color left in it to draw the eye to it.

Well spotted and very well executed showing as much imagination as the originators of the Trompe L'Oeil.

Mooi gedaan en een leuk onderwerp en goeie PP met deze kleurencombinatie. Echt plezierig om naar te kijken.

Very beautiful composition ! I like very much these colours and painting.
Congratulations

Great shot!
I love that you have desaturated everything except the painting.
Excellent composition and details, very original idea.
Well seen and captured!

Hi Michael,
Really well spotted! Actually, this painted window looks more real to me than the other two. Is it because of your excellent work with desaturation, or reality of the painting (amazing detail in 'reflection from across the street')...
Great!

Nice work on the colors. I like a lot how the photo is de-saturated except for that window. But the best is that the painting window itself has no strong colors so it fits the mood very well. The key to the balance of the composition is that bench. Very well seen and captured.

Very artful painting and very clever photo. Very well seen and thought about.

Yet another creative work from your workshop.
The Potato Eaters is very well merged in to your photo.

the note is usefull too.

thanks
