Hello,

This is a second picture of this beautiful piece of architecture that looks like a mini-castle from the fairy tales. I took it on the 16th. of December 2007 in the same day with this one and promised some friends I would post a front view too. So here it is! To me, this is the most interesting building in Brasov. It's completely different than other buildings and has lots of appeal. I hope you like my POV! It's a gate in a gate :)

Ecaterina's Gate

Ecaterina's Gate is the only original city gate to survive from medieval times. In fact the fairy-tale looking tower which was built in 1559 is only a part of the original gate; documents talk about the existence of a wooden structure which was demolished in 1827. The four small corner turrets (also seen in other Transylvanian towns) symbolize the fact that the town had judicial autonomy, and the "right of sword" (ius gladii) which was the right to decide on capital punishment. Above the entrance the tower bears the city's coat of arms, a crown on a tree trunk. The gate was in the care of the taylors' guild.

Ecaterina's Gate is one of the only two old entrances to the Medieval fortress that still exist today. Both of them are the former Northern entrances to the fortress. The other one is The Scheii Gate situated not far from Ecaterina's Gate.

Hey Eduard,

Great symetry to this one, and impressive colors, quite surreal on the building, very well lightened up, great perspective along with the composition, I was thinking on going to Brasov the last time, but then I went to France. Hm, I knew before its a great city, so maybe next time I will.

Oh, do watch out for the bears. :)

Da, e interesanta si compozitia asta dar mie tot la cealalta mi-a ramas gandul :) - parea cumva mai 'dinamica', se formau niste unghiuri acolo, niste umbre interesante.
'The front view' mi se pare ceva mai 'statica', mai 'conventionala' sa zic, desi imi place mult ideea de 'gate in a gate :), perspectiva pe care o ofera/creeaza poarta deschisa.
Frumos lucrat :)

Great long exposure shot for this superb view, Eduard, that you have captured in good pov and composition.

The glow to the main building is superb. Pillars and gate giving good contrast here.

Good symmetry that you have adopted. Good job.

Mai, astea nu mai sunt poze, e magie curata aici.Aproape nici nu vreau sa stiu ce loc e in realitate, pentru ca e exact ca intr-o poveste...Las ca stiu eu, ai gasit aparatul fermecat....de aia iti ies pozele asa....

perfectly exposed night shot, captured from a well chosen frontal pov. The light control is excellent and apart the architecture and the colors, I like the long shadows of the gate and the tree. Very nice work!

Amazing blue hour shot with fantastic light management. I like very much the contrast between the dark walls of the door in the front very well textured, and the luminous building on the back. The shadows of the door on the snow add to the already mysterious atmosphere. A very nice picture.
