Photographer’s Note
Welcome in Europe to Slovenia!
On Dec. 20, 2007, Slovenia entered the Schengen area and frontiers with Italy have been ceased to exist. What an historic moment!
Border zone, as knew until that date, was defined in 1954 definitely cutting in two the city of Gorizia as previously proposed in 1947. The border have also been a major pain for many people of Italian language who had to leave their native places who were no more in Italy after the world war second. This photo was taken on Dec. 22 during the morning celebration at the Basovizza/Bazovica pass where several polical personalities spoken for the occasion. At the main celebration in Rabuiese/Scofjie pass partecipated also Josè Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission.
