[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A mussel shell covered with frost on the beach just after dawn.

I've experimented a bit with PP with the aim of enhancing the dawn light and the texture of the frost.
Paintshop Pro: Clarify filter, level 20.
Photoshop: Levels, saturation, sharpening.

Extra note
This is a bit of an experiment as I have 10 days left on my trial period of Paintshop Pro and wanted to try out some new ideas.
As the original version was a bit grainy but I liked the idea and general composition, I decided to attempt to enhance it using the PSP Clarify tool and rather extreme sharpening in Photoshop.
However, while I think the thumbnail looks OK, the large version is excessively grainy and perhaps not entirely successful.

ciao John,

mi piace l´idea e la composizione ! Bellissima ! Forse un po´ troppo lavoro in Photoshop, difficile dire come e´la foto originale. In ogni caso ben fatto !
Ciao christian

The lighting is nice here but somehow the mussel does not look that sharp. I don't know what F stop you shot this at but it looks like it was not the sweet spot for the lens. I also think that there is a lot of fine detail on the frost and sand that are compromised when downsizing to 200kb.
TFS.

Hello John,

I find your orignal picture very well and good presentation.
This picture here have more charme through the totaly finish and the big sand grain.
Very well done.

Have a nice weekend,
John.

hello john
a very inventive and nice composition. I really prefer your pp version. Light is very good and texture effect really shows the frost. An enjoyable picture.
Best wishes for the new year.

Hi John,

If I may be honest with you I have to agree with your thought about image in full size being too grainy. Although composition in general looks fabulous, the game of light and shadows accompanied with different textures and adorable colour work, I would prefer less noise. I think it diminishes the texture character of the shell and destroyes the natural soft feel of sand. On the other hand, enhanced noise creates sharp feeling which is somehow similar to the feeling of cold frost. It is a dilema but something is for sure: whole composition is perfect.

Best regards,
Jeri

Pure art John
I like this kind of close up, looks really great.
