As life goes on,
Pain is felt,
Tears are cried
And miseries are put into the utmost bottom of your heart...
The truth has to be accepted,
The past cannot be altered,
But the future can,
Life goes on, live it.
But as people say this,
It is hard to let go,
As I know this myself,
The pains will not leave,
I tell myself,
Life goes on
Over and over again.
Why is this?
When you know the truth,
When you know what to do,
It just doesnt work,
As the saying goes
Life goes on
Live with it,
But me personally,
...Camondo stairs in Galata, Istanbul...

A great and clever composition!
A nice B&W presentation!
Brian (3) 2008-01-02 19:42
The white haired man clothed in black walking up the white stairs makes a great compo. I like how you can barely see his face as he climbs the curvy stairs. Great BW tones. Wondering what kind of camera, lens, etc. you used here though.
Wanda1 (15000) 2008-01-02 19:47
I love this shot, it reminds me of an Escher drawing with all the winding stairs in different directions. You have a great point of view and the man in his dark clothing contrasts well with the grey stairs. Black and white was a great chioce enhancing the mood.
bombilla (3406) 2008-01-02 20:09
We just keep climbing the stairs. What else can we do? They wind away beneath us. The curve away above us. Our hair grows whiter with each step, our light dims with each flight. Excellent composition, Korkut. And thoughts for the new year. Not rosy, but as true as the stark black and white of this image. Best, -Hugh
BLO (180) 2008-01-02 21:18
i love it... I like how the stairs draw the geometrical figures almost like in architects drawings, but that is great that you included the man in this shot. Good choice..
carper (96) 2008-01-02 23:14
very nice one Korkut.
I like the curl in the shot witch is very nice in black and white, good photojob and have a good 2008 for you and your family.

Asiulus (1176) 2008-01-02 23:24
Beautiful curves. Bw seems a very wise choice to me, helping to concentrate on shapes. Human brings life to this frame. Very good shot.
ARGI (3456) 2008-01-02 23:25
Amazing point of view, excellent POV.
Fantastic poem and title.
It's a very successful moment to find this man on this serpant stairs.
Best regards Argyris

merhaba korkut abi
oy oy oy, S&B harikası bir kare abi,
gerçekten şahane, bende çekmek isterdim böyle bir kare
CaptainJack (0) 2008-01-02 23:51
The combination of the swirling stairwell, assorted textures in the concrete, and even that white swirl of hair that we see, all work well in harmony here.
tehanu_f (6896) 2008-01-03 0:00
Super merdivenler bunlar! Cektigin aciya ve dar kadrajina bayildim. Mesut beyin notuna da bayildim. Eline saglik.
mesutilgim (87404) 2008-01-03 0:29
smarcell (19963) 2008-01-03 0:39
Very beautiful B&W picture. In this case the strong contrast and no colors add some dramaticity. I like the geometrical pattern, and the slightlu blurred head.
azaf1 (15929) 2008-01-03 0:46
A very dramatic metaphor of the note you have writte. B/W for emphasis, great geometrical designs and incredible stability in the framing
jorgi (3810) 2008-01-03 0:58
my biggest compliment for this capure and the note. It is so strongly filled with emotions it hurts watching it. This is it! That's what photography is about. My sincere admiration.
alibasarir (15580) 2008-01-03 0:59
merhaba korkut bey

Interesting composition you captured.I like the curves of the winding stairs and the man ascending it.Wonderful point of view.
Merline (0) 2008-01-03 3:55
what an interesting and powerful composition...I love the silvery tones, the man in black, lonely and going up these stairs, the architecture of those well presented with this point of view. Great note to go with it, a pic that makes us think and exudes emotion, very symbolic.
newra (135) 2008-01-03 4:09
delkoo (68) 2008-01-03 4:43
I love the framing of your picture... very unusual and very successful. The frame is flawless as you have captured everything in the proper way.it couldn't have been better framed with the solid man in black on thE FG.
Budapestman (82620) 2008-01-03 4:57

Selamlar

Hi, Merhaba! Korkut! I liked the end of note (Life goes on, Live with it, But me personally, I cannot.) Believe however that with the Patience and the Insistence many we can change, (it is enough we change in in our heart!) and we enjoy the each moment of each our second remainder life, with the good way and the effort! Improbable thought and imprinting,
KKar (486) 2008-01-03 9:13
Excelent photo Dear Korkut
Great perception of the theme.
Happy new year
siolaw (38292) 2008-01-03 9:35
Nice monochrome compo from high POV enhancing the graphism of these strange stairways... I like the grainy, antique feel of this image!
A bit late, but Happy new year to you!
hyasar (7769) 2008-01-03 10:13
your approach on the composition is very professionally. The form of stairs and climbing man are impressive. Of course, bw works very well, too.
rigoletto (34269) 2008-01-03 10:58
Bayım, siz İz Dergisi alır mıydınız? (Mesut Bey'i zahmete sokma.
Dionysos (1234) 2008-01-03 11:46
Benim bildigim 3 olduk HCB anisina burada calisan.

I love the sharpness, the contrast and the bit of motion blur.

pandoraTE (2321) 2008-01-03 13:27
Yine bakmışsınız tepeden tepeden:) Model de siyah beyaz fotoğraf için biçilmiş kaftan olmuş (saç rengi itibariyle). Not ise, yine duygularıma tercüman. Elinize sağlık.
sebinho342 (19317) 2008-01-03 13:54
Talking about sebinho's style this one for sure has korkut's style and touch.
Hi Korkut and first all my wishes for this new year and to all of your family, soon will be first spring for your little youngstar :)
Tremendous BW here, love the contrasts here, the sharpness and details ... but all that serves the terrific play of lines and curves your found here.
Really great one
broglia (3598) 2008-01-03 14:14
Quite simply. Stunning! Graphically those stairs have so much potential, and you have exploited it to the full. The POV is perfection. And to capture a guy with white hair dressed in black must have been to good to be true.
stego (24030) 2008-01-03 14:40
I appreciate much these compos made using the visual arrangements of lines and not so usual POV's and this one is specially achieved. It entices our imagination and makes us meditate about life, of possible messages that can be read, who knows... The B&W is very appropriate to the subject.
gary91 (15348) 2008-01-03 21:21
A very original and well thought composition. The person is very cleverly placed and the b&w conversion is great.
I am just wondering what kind of equipment you are using ?
Wish you all the best for this new year 2008.
Best regards, Christian
gertan (1527) 2008-01-04 0:33

evanrizo (456) 2008-01-04 2:23
Hi again my friend, what can I write here, a great and very symbolic AND truth.
drago (4832) 2008-01-04 7:10
Korkut my friend i wish you a happy New Year!Life goes on,a new year has come, the past one full of memories, life passes very quick! We ought to enjoy every minute!
Cheers and all the best to you and family
KevRyan (22952) 2008-01-04 7:24
This stairway not only allows you to go up and down but also round and round and in figure of eights - so many patterns of life - I love the way the steps cut in so many different angles and the curve of the man so neatly mirroring the curvature of the stone - a deeply satisfying and artistic image from a photographer who is flying!!!
nisko (2642) 2008-01-04 7:39
dear korkut,i like a lot your creation and the plot of your composition..it was a great idea, well done!
COSTANTINO (57971) 2008-01-04 8:02
beautiful picture with very nice
geometrical schemes and excellent
B&W choice. POV is perfect. Bravo.
culp (224) 2008-01-04 12:14
Incredible job. The black and white is wonderful and says so much.
doubay (2093) 2008-01-04 12:30
I think this is humiliating… for all those, who have uploaded lots of boring photos of this place in the past. This shot is really excellent, with fantastic geometry and this perfectly fitting white hair guy.
One little remark though: Perhaps it would look even better, if you had left some more space on the left side.
feather (51130) 2008-01-04 12:51
I really admire your abilty in making these symbolic images. I would love to see inside your head. What comes first? the idea; the poem/lyric; the photo? You forced us into this symbolic reading of the image but lets not forget about the wonderful graphics and the silvery tones. Good work
Bluejeans (64249) 2008-01-04 14:09
Ola Korkut ,

jafadabret (56501) 2008-01-05 10:17
pboehringer (770) 2008-01-05 10:41
a shot that puts me into some thinking about life and its different moments and stages. The additional verse that placed here only enhances that feeling and gives the additional element that the New Year with all the resolutions are behind and the reality is starting to kick in.
bwiti (402) 2008-01-05 13:08
Magnificent photo! What can I say after all these comments ? Just thousand congratulations and happy new year.... Just it...

Hello master of graphic,
What's a beautiful photo you have here. The circles look really good here. The man adds another moody feeling in it. Well done.
Thanks for your wishes about my exam. Still struggling with it now :-(
meltemi (0) 2008-01-05 23:07
first your note leaved me speechless, as I feel every word of it.
The your image with the man in that strange stair seemed like one in the cycles of life. A simple composition for a great effect, the point of view is powerful and the lighting is great. Bravo.

Olá Korkut, love the poem and your picture is outstanding. The fact that they match so well only makes the post even stronger. I feel like God observing this old man going on with his life no matter what. What could he do? He just have to move on, one step at the time...
I wish you all the best for 2008 and specially for the new member of the family ;-)

Wonderfull picture with beautiful geometry and nice framming
Very good work
Vato_Law (12720) 2008-01-06 13:46
Great composition here, and this man in black with white hair fits perfectly on it.
The graphism created by the stairs and their lines is just amazing.
Paolo (41222) 2008-01-06 14:45
Hi Korkut, wonderufl and brilliant one! the great POV over the man is fantastic and it's the key for this brilliant view.

AiresSantos (56155) 2008-01-06 23:58
Very nice black and white composition. Excellent POV and details. I like the graphism created by the stairs
TFS and greetings

I'm still checking the pictures I missed in TE and that's one of the best I've seen.
Excellent POV and contrasts too!
vincz (19113) 2008-01-07 0:44
Excellent compostion. I just wonder if you saw the potential when looking at the stairs from that POV, then waited for an interesting subject to pass by. The result is excellent.
pasternak (15181) 2008-01-07 3:27
Fantastic PoV for this Escheresque composition, Korkut, very symbolic photo featuring your favorite element - stairs, the symbolism is strengthened by the fact that we do not see the person's face...
Cheers and happy new year!
batalay (36149) 2008-01-07 18:07

Her merdivenin hakkını vermek, her şeyi iyi yaşamak gerek:)))) FİNAL DE GÜZEL OLSUN DEĞİL Mİ?
kdialyna (3148) 2008-01-14 12:10
It's really amazing how good you are my friend to see details.
Here the combination from the stairs lines and the climbing man, send to us the message you want to send.
Excellent the B/W conversion, gives something melancholic to all composition that suits very good with the words from the poem.
Very good work filaraki.
keribar (43841) 2008-01-15 21:25
Excellent picture Korkut,
Very courageous frame, and nothing here spoils the subject that you had in mind the Camondo stairs and a passing person only - Izzet
vinicio (23423) 2008-01-17 13:08
How to complete a masterpiece, your image is a beautiful example of that, compliments Korkut, great perspective, B&W and excellent inclusion of the old man, your POV is amazing, well done.

Superb work, Korkut... my God, I have missed out on so much... this is incredible and to me also somewhat "personal" as the man walking upstairs reminds me of my favourite, now deceased poet in Hungary, Pilinszky. The work's stark bw symbolism is poignant, the moment perfectly captured, Korkut. Into my second batch of favs.

Interesting shot with the high POV. The B&W is a good idea and the curves and lines of the stairs please me ! Good work.
And thanks a lot for your nice comment...

First of all the B&W is just great here. Each stair has a full range of tones and contrast. Compositionally this is very interesting. The unique perspective of looking straight down on this man gives a strange feeling. The curving staircases fill the frame very artistically. His black clothes make him stand out too.
Life goes on. We must keep climbing until we reach the top.

you do have an excellent eye for looking at patterns & your way of composing is worthy of commendations...
I liked your sticking to the basic B&W form also
the POV & usage of top angle created magic on the canvas :)

this is a magic shot! The stairs architecture is surprising like in a MC Escher painting. The human presence adds a misteryous mood. Perfect composition and POV, good B/W choice and contrast.

Hi Korkut. Great point of view! I like the way you combine all the geometric lines of the stairs with the silhouette of the guy. Excellent crop and very good choice for B&W. Regards, Yvonne

If there was a collection to be made of best shots on TE ever, my suggestion would be to include this one...especially with this title, you do know how to make your images complete by giving them a meaning. I don't know if you had the chance to 'meet' online the work of a Portuguese photographer (an amateur), Rui Palha? I admire his B&W photos, and this image instantly reminded me of him...trust me, that's the biggest complement I could ever give to anyone!

what can I say ?
amazing art with your soul and heart inside....

Hi Korkut, this is a very evocative shot of one of my favourite parts of Istanbul. Perhaps you know this, but Henri Cartier-Bresson's 1938 photo of this same staircase was used as the Penguin cover for Albert Camus' novel "The Outsider". Your shot captures something of that same quality. Great POV (taken from the window of the pharmacy above this place?)

this shot is too good to pass by without leaving my 2 cents :) the Escher-esque stairs were the first to attract my attention, then the note, then the combination of the photo and the poem, and now I don't think I can write a meaningful comment. simple, but very powerful image, life does indeed goes on, up and down and in many different directions, as the stairs here. I do like that the man is climbing UP :) superb work, my compliments.

Yes, another jewel in your portfolio. What can one say? BW gives an exceptional tone. Very wise choice. Good eye.

i just love the asymmetry in the photograph. its kinda like the human mind, twisted all throughout! just love the black clothed person amist all the white.

I am under very strong impression of not only realization but also the symbolism and message of your work.

Powerful, sad, lonely looking image with matching poetry. I like the B&W for this. Strongly composed. Memorable.

I haven't rated your masterpiece, a very superb composition that only a great photographer can do!
