That day I decided to walk to the top of Cairn Gorm! Before I reached the Ptarmigan restaurant I was passed by the train couple of times.

The Cairngorm Mountain Railway is 2 km long and the highest railway in the United Kingdom. It is a funicular railway that ascends the slopes of Cairn Gorm, the UK's fifth-highest mountain, in the wilderness of Scotland, near Aviemore in Inverness-shire.

The Cairngorms National Park is a national park in north east Scotland, established in 2003. It covers the Cairngorms range of mountains, and some surrounding hills. It is the largest national park in the British Isles, with an area of 3,800 kmē.

In the background you see Glenmore Forest Park, a remnant of the Caledonian Forest which surrounds beautiful Loch Morlich.

Hi Matt,

I have actually been here myself several times. However, I am ashamed to say i have never walked to the restraunt.

You have captured this shot on a great day. The loch is stunning and the shadows created by the clouds over the greenery is excellent. The black and white of the frame works well, eapecially with the tracks that are similar in colour.

Happy New Year,

Scott

Excellent POV high up the mountain. I love the effect of the layers of mountains as they fade into the distance. The sweep of the railway line leads the eye into the frame. Well done
Kath

Hello, Matt.

A great picture which shows beautifully the colour changes as you look farther into the distance to those far-off hills. Last time I was up there, it was just the chairlift - I must plan to go a trip on the funicular railway sometime soon - looks great.

Lovely sharp and clear picture too.

Best Wishes for 2008!

John.

Hi Matt,

Excellent view from above, I like a lot your composition! The landscape is nice and the railway is perfectly matched with the composition of your picture!

Greetings from France

Hi Matt!
You have captured a fine landscape there, with the railway as an eyecatcher in the foreground. Its a fascinating variation between sun and shadow, and your composition make a good feeling of depth. Good colors, you could perhaps have boosted them up a little bit? (Could also be my laptop screen cheating me..)
TFS!
Regards, Jon
