I was driving a bit faster than usual to a spot where I strongly believed that I would probably have a higher chance of shooting something ‘good’ under the full moon light. I was rushing, and racing with the mist and cloud formation that would probably end up my excitement over the beautiful landscape under the full moon light.

While setting up my camera to my tripod to shoot the well-known ‘mighty’ Mt. Kinabalu, a stranger in his four-wheel drive dropped by, surprisingly greeted me. He introduced himself as Haji Ibrahim of Mabul Island and told me, he believed that I must have been rushing from Ranau, to shoot the moon lighted Mt Kinabalu, as he saw me on the road side some minutes before, shooting the Ranau town under the moon light (in my TL posting). Series of shots (budding’s experiment) were taken before I decided to take the last two shots with the flower composed as a foreground. The light from a small hut on the left illuminated the flower as another point of interest, hence giving a sense of distance. And that last two, was happened to be on the ‘acceptable exposure’ and became my favourite.

My master’s advices inspired me to appreciate the wonderful moment of a beautiful landscape. Never let the moment end without the lens pointed and the shutter triggered… a beautiful landscape, might never happened twice.

Happy shooting,
Ramdan.
This wonderful experience ‘helped’ me to fight the cold and freezing misty night, and hold on tightly to my shots. My wife kept on telling me to stop smiling along the journey back to Kota Kinabalu.

Hi Ramdan

My comment will be a lengthy one after seeing this photo. I will not imagine it is easy to find a moment like this for Mt K view. How many photographers can wait at this hour?

I see you experimented with 30s exposures quite a bit. Here, it turned out very well. Dark face of the mountain, with its tip illuminated by the moonlight. That is incredible.

You have good cause to smile on your way to city. It is a great capture.

I agree on the left FG lighted from a hut. It is a wise decision which really softens and gives mood to this view. Because Mt K's top is bare without green.

The exposure makes it looking like soft early morning sunlight. I seldom see moonlight this bright, not on any shot anyway (maybe time to wait and try).

The mist below makes a good contribution. Excellent work. Frame it for your living room wall.

I can almost hear Rabani's whistle coming soon.

Surreal Ramdan,
Including the left lit flowering plant on the left side adds that much more interest to the foreground which leads the viewer to appreciate the ghostly impression on the mountain.

You have a lens flare on the upper mid part of your work. Next time when shooting with the sun or the moon anywhere above and in front of you, place your hand or anything above and in front of the lens to keep off the flare.

Life is not a tunnel vision journey. Look around you when you are living it. Most of the times, there are more beautiful and educating sceneries on the sides than in front where you are going. And most of the times, it gives you reason to smile as you move along in life.

Bani

Hi Ramdan
good work and good time well done friend...

Salam Fadzil

You have it covered well this time Ramdan. Nice cool blue of the chilly night with a touch of the green plant in the foreground. The cloud looks stunning and no wonder you can't help smiling all the way down. Good job.

Hard to believe this is night... That's excellent and very well done.
The light is beautiful and the mood strong... I do like that.

PS : Welcome on TE.

Hi Ramdan,

Nice long exposure. The plant certainly adds an element of interest. That cloud on the left looks like a flying dragon, being chased by the clouds on the right. Maybe I might have preferred it a litte bit darker since it was nighttime. Was it a full moon? When your wife sees this picture, she'll understand why you were smiling so much.

Best regards,
Lamberto

Wow, it's so bright it's almost like sunlight, I guess the 30 sec exposure explains it, majestic mountain, is that snow near the summit or wet rock? Too bad about the moonflare.

Hi Ramdan, A beautiful result especially as it has signs of ice of snow. The saw tooth effect is very obvious in this image. Well balanced with offset. TFS. Murray.
PS Good to meet you recently and chat about camera settings etc.
