This is so typically Ocean Beach (OB), I just had to post it. The big surf drew the watchers out in droves, the surfers were mostly at the cliffs and too far out for good photos. The pier was closed because waves were breaking over the pier so the gulls had the pier to themselves.

Seems like we always have Santa Ana winds for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Days are warm and clear although the nights are cold. Today is no exception.

Wishing as all of you do for Peace on Earth.

Hello Pat,
Beautiful and strange image of these people around a Christmas tree placed at the seaside. Beautiful colors and very good realization.
Have a nice evening. Happy new year.
Cordially

Hello Pat,
Christmas is Christmas...everywhere...with snow or under the hot sun!
I like your capture most of all for the difference with a typical scene in Europe during the Christmas days!
Very nice light also...

wishes for a better new year more peaceful...

Hi Pat,
Shirtsleves in December you SoCalers are definetely spoiled not like us Noreasters we like a 30 mile an hour wind and about 20 F this time of year just to keep us from getting soft. Even the dog looks like a wimp. Lovely Southern California Christmas time photo with the beautifully decorated trees down by the beach. The crashing surf makes a nice contrast to the lovely blue sky.
Regards, Tom

Hi Pat
Very beautiful photo with nice colours and POV
I wish with you Peace on earth
Best regards

Hello Patricia,
What a feeling to have such weather at Christmas, here it's rain, grey skies, some fog, cold, not much fun to go out. But it alos looks weird to see a Christmas tree near the ocean when people are wearing short sleaves...funny ;-)
But your presentation in the exposure is very good. It's has some warm toning inside what suits the picture well....very nice.
Have a nice day, Henk

Pat,
quite an interesting documentary of the typical OB scene. Something that I have to trust you. Despite living relatively close to it I never came across to get to the place. The Xmas tree is an interesting detail that provides the season's reference.
Cheers, Peter

Hola Pat.
Very rare scene with a Christmas tree at the ocean front, looks like the weather is good for a walk to enjoy the beautiful view. Your two WS are excellent shots, either one could be the original shot in TE.
Happy holidays. Well done.
Cheers.

I'm so envious of your warm weather. Our beach walk today entailed 4 layers of clothing, a hat, scarf and gloves. It seems the big waves brought viewers out in force and it seems so incongruous to see a Christmas tree on the beach. I enjoyed all the images. Good work Pat.
I wish you a Peaceful New Year.
Kath

Hello Pat -

Oh, to experience a California Christmas again. I used to bemoan the un-Christmas like weather of California in my youth but not that I am older let me have the sun and shorts for Christmas. This is a very nice image and the bright and warm early morning sun makes this image work, IMO. I also think the woman and stroller do not belong in the image as they are a bit of a distraction. Well done!

Merry Christmas

John

Hi Pat
Lovely capture!
I like the vertical part with the tree and the horizontal with the people. They create a very nice shape. The colors of course are just great
Best wishes
Argiris

Hello Pat,
the colours of this image are well saturated and the imposing big tree (the first time I see a tree near a beach) a good focal point on this place. Good clarity and your angle and perspective of the place are very good.
Hope the new year will bring you joy and happiness.
Stella

Hello Pat,

I hope your Christmas was beautiful :-) This is a pretty image. The huge Christmas Tree seem odd being in a warm place. I guess I am used to cold and snowy Christmas. This place seem very nice and popular and you managed to capture the spirit of the season very well. Thanks Pat and have a Happy New Year :-)

Roberto
PS. This was the first Christmas seeing my little Maddy open presents with her little hands. It was beautiful :-)

Hi Pat. Nice festive shot. Like me I see you are one of those people that watches the watchers. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
All the best for Oh Eight, Paul.

Happy 2008 to you, Pat!

I find this warm light very attractive, falling on the perspective view and glowing everything it comes through. Very good composition, Pat, for this one. Lovely Xmas tree and the far line of the bridge. Just a little flaw that the baby and lady cropped off at bottom. Overall, great work. TFS

Hi Pat,

This is a tree I like a lot! Without many things, but the red balls, over the tree leaves. Beautiful sea-scene, with people in interesting attitudes. A good one image for this time. Happy new year to you and your family!

Greetings,
Angel.

hi pat,
i am late but still i wish you happy holidays and the best of 2008 and beyond. OB is a great place to undwind, no doubt as this foto tells everyone.
my 3 Ks as usual,
benedict

Hello Pat,
I miss this lovely picture, with interesting people and nice Christmas tree but maybe without the lady and the half stoller would be perfect. Nevertheless i still love this shot. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Pat, wish you all the best.

daniel

Hello Pat,
The sharpness, clarity and composition of this photo is very impressive! I haven't read any other critiques yet but I'll bet that at least one TE mmeber criticized the woman on the lower left being cropped off. I like it just the way that you rendered it. This is high caliber photography and your experience and attention to detail pays off here! I also like the way that people are facing in all directions and the dog is the "icing on the cake". Really nice work!

Hi Pat
The tree seems out of place (especially when you know actually where it is), but the composition is very nice, with all those people enjoying the seaside walking.
About waves in OB, did you see this picture:
