Another shot, from inside the grounds of the "Gandan Khiid Monastery", in central Ulan Bator. The Tibetan style branch of Buddhism is evident, with the red robed monk at right. I liked the yellow vs blue colour contrast here.
The Russians all but destroyed Buddhism, in Mongolia last century, with the Marxist doctrine of "Religion is the opiate / opium of the masses / people". Many temples were destroyed & many monks executed or sent to re-education gulags.
"It was translated from the German original, "Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes" and is often referred to as "religion is the opiate of the masses." The quote originates from the introduction of his 1843 work Contribution to Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right which was subsequently released one year later in Marx's own journal Deutsch-Französischen Jahrbücher, a collaboration with Arnold Ruge."

A good composition of the monastery complex. The monk adds much to the ambiance. I like the contrast between the yellowish buildings and the pale blue sky. Good tones and clarity.

Olá Chris, the combination of yellow/blue sky is definately attractive and Yellow seems to be the color choice around here... ;-) which makes the contrast with the red of the tibetan even more evident. Nice close approach, with the stupa(?) making a bow to the tibetan ;-)

strong colour contrast with the yellow and orange against the blue, a strange and eye-catching spot with the red dressed monk. I like the details and sharpness.

Hi, my friend!
It is next interesting photo from Mongolia. I like your composition and your warm colours. Mongolia must be big and interesting country.

"Central" Ulan Bator looks fairly rural here judging by this unpaved "avenue"...
The red monk adds good balance to this stupa, must be an amazing country to those who don't mind basic comfort.
Have a nice day JY

Hi Chris. Perfect combination of blue and yellow and red. Well taken. Looks a bit tilted. But that doesn't affect the message. Regards.

Excellent compo, Chris, in splashes of primary colors, the monk definitely standing out, giving dynamics and scale; maybe it's worth to correct the perspective distortion, congratulations, Daniel

Good shot with a nice compsosition. The monk on one side and the monumnet (stupa?) on the other side. The colour is what makes this really stand out - the red monk is remarkable in this yellow landscape. Great work!

Although the yellow dominates the scene our eye is automatically drawn to the red of the monk. Although a lot smaller he provides a good balance with the stupa.

An interesting scene from Mongolia, with monastery reminding of Soviet style architecture... The incoming monk gives scale and adds human element to the scene

Hi Chris. You could write a book on your travels through this part of the world with many photos to show. This is a good composition showing the dicothomy between traditional and modern life. TFS. Murray.

Absolute interesting this place Chris. Good idea to include the monk here for having some life in the compo. Some special stone maybe to have the yellow surface. tfs

beeu contraste entre les jaunes et les bleus tendre du ciel, une Asie surpeuplée et pourtant, ici, calme et un peu de désolation.
Des lumières un peu trop fortes.

A fine sculpture in front as it gives depth to the composition!
Wise to include the monk, as he also adds nice colour contrast...
