Greetings sohrab,

Images like this deserve respect for the bravery of pushing the boundaries of natural photography. I enjoy the heavy grain and distorted features. It conjures up many different emotions. Excellent utilization of the properties of light, shadow and contrast. The large frame contains the image well and helps to make it a bit more eye catching. It is as if the shot is entirely created by a graphite pencil. Your unique eye and style must be complimented. Well done.

Reminds me of these photographs we see in memorial centers for the WW2 holocaust.

I think the comments such a work will get, depends on who posted it.
If a new beginner did such an attempt, he would probably be cursed before he got his photo deleted, but when the uploader is Sohrab, it becomes a masterpiece.
As a member who has no idea about the background or deep philosophical meanings or psychological subtitles of this work, I like the graphic experimentalism in it, and the weird, Munchean result is somehow appealing, but nothing more. I cannot get it as the most innovative masterpiece ever seen in TE.

In regards to Deniz note, I think the generalization that photographers on TE only praise long established photographers is ridiculous and somewhat insulting to those that really love photography. Not every person here jumps on the "good photographer" bandwagon, nor does every person here only look at photos from people who have 5000+ points...some of us can't even see the points.
Listen, it's a stunning photo if you appreciate it as a stunning photo. There is no narrative inherent to any photograph...no story being shown. The story is composed by the viewer or the photographer, if he/she decides to place some words along with the photo. For instance, a picture of a smiling boy with a football flying into the frame...could be a shot of a boy playing football, or it could be a shot just before he gets hit in the head by the football his upset mother just threw at him...This is an extrmeme example, but we really don't know what's going on besides "boy with ball". Photography is how that moment of life looks through a camera...simply. Some photographs have wide appeal because large numbers of people can relate to the content and compose their stories appropriately or they are aware of the circumstances surrounding the photographs content, I.E. photos of Sept 11th 2001...Others appeal on a more personal level. These could be more abstract in content, but sometimes that allows a viewer to become more involved in that particular photographic experience and that photo could have large degrees of seperation between one viewers experience as opposed to anothers' experience.
What I'm saying is, it is not the photographer or the photograph, it is the viewer...they alone control what they receive from viewing that moment in time. So, what it comes down to is whether you "get" it or not...Sohrab new Animesh would "get" it, hence the dedication. I'll back someone up here and say, quite confidently, that Animesh wouldn't be the one to toss out complimentary critiques purely out of a recipricol need...I imagine he is 100% sure of the words he chose to write.

For me this shot evokes memories...or, I guess the effect is what I imagine when I try to remember what my father looked like...I have a general view, but closer I lose the memory and I'm left with a receding blur...which keeps me awake from time to time. I don't know, I love the shot...

my friends an insomniac, of late he's gotten into writing poetry in the night when everyone else is asleep...makes me read them when we get time to meet up...some lines hit hard...although i never took his insomnia quite seriously...this photograph just reminds me of him!

Beautiful photo with high, almost pro level, of artistic eye and technique.
However, I agree 100% with Deniz....
who or what (it is not written in capital letters) is animesh?

Great pic. Maybe it doesn't necessarily belongs here? since its not really telling us anything about anything. but hey who cares, It doesn't hurt i suppose. Def conjures up emotions so well done. I kinda felt not to sound shallow but almost a gross feeling towards this. the distorted face is just very eerie.
