Photographer’s Note

Ano Lechonia is another of the villages where de Chirico built railway stations.
Below is the extract in both Greek and English that I included in my previous series from the Volos railway station. The style is the same but this one is just a miniature. Enjoy it!

Το Σιδηροδρομικό Μουσείο Θεσσαλίας, το οποίο στεγάζεται στον πρώτο όροφο του κτιρίου του σιδηροδρομικού σταθμού Βόλου, χτίστηκε το 1882, σε σχέδια του Εβαρίστο Ντε Κίρικο. Στον πρώτο όροφο, ο οποίος χρησίμευε ως κατοικία για τον εκάστοτε σταθμάρχη και παραχωρήθηκε ως μουσειακός χώρος έπειτα από πιέσεις των « Φίλων των Τρένων», εκτίθενται αντικείμενα και έγγραφα της εποχής τα οποία πλέον δεν έχουνε λειτουργικό ρόλο αλλά αποτελούνε μικρούς θησαυρούς από ιστορικής πλευράς.

Είναι ένα από τα τελευταία νεοκλασικά κτίρια που λόγω της γειτόνευσής του με άλλα κτίρια κοινωνικού χαρακτήρα - όπως το Σπίρερ, το Δημαρχείο, το Δημοτικό Θέατρο, το Δημοτικό Ωδείο, το Κέντρο Τέχνης Τζιόρτζιο Ντε Κίρικο, η βιβλιοθήκη του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας - αποκτά μοναδική πολεοδομική συνέχεια στον άξονα χρήσεων αυτών των κτιρίων. Λειτουργεί επίσης και σαν ένα είδος πνευματικής χρονομηχανής μεταφέροντάς μας συναισθηματικά σε μια εποχή κοινωνικής, οικονομικής, πολιτιστικής, εμπορικής ανάπτυξης η οποία συνδέθηκε με μια νέα, την εποχή του ατμού.

Το άγαλμα της θεάς Αθηνάς σε συνδυασμό με την καλλιτεχνική υπογραφή του Εβαρίστο Ντε Κίρικο, του προσδίδει μια μοναδικότητα η οποία εκφράζεται με την μετατροπή του σε μουσείο.(http://www.i-politismos.gr/rail_museum.html)

The Railroad Museum of Thessaly, that shelter at the first floor of the Railroad Station of Volos, was built in 1882 by Evaristo De Kiriko on his architecture designs. On the first floor , where there was the living place of the yardmaster and donated as museum place after demands of the "Friends of Trains", exposures items and official papers of the period, no longer in their functional use but as little treasures from historical site.

One of the last new-classic buildings, where neighbours with other social character buildings like the Town Hall, Municipality Music Hall, Spirer Building, "Giorgio De Kiriko" Centre of Art, Municipal Theatre, Library of the University of Thessaly, gains unique next in town planning. It also works as a spiritual time machine, taking us emotionally to a period of social, cultural, economy, commercial evolution that been connected with a new one, the period of steam.

The statue of goddess Athena in combination with the artistic signature of Evaristo De Kiriko, gives it a uniqueness that been expressed by his convert into museum. (http://www.i-politismos.gr/rail_museum_eng.html)

The image has a very nice atmospheric mood to it which seems to emphasise the old days when this station was used and full of people. It's as if the building is crying for what it no longer has....a reason to be there. Very nice composition which focuses all the attention onto the station building. Very well done.

Όμορφο κτήριο Αργύρη, στην παρουσίαση σου του έδωσες μία όμορφη ατμόσφαιρα.
Την μόνη παρατήρηση-ένσταση έχω από τα αριστερά το κάδρο σου θα το προτιμούσα ανοιχτό για να συμπεριλάμβανες ολόκληρο του κτήσμα.

Αργύρη καλησπέρα,
ο σταθμός Άνω Λεχώνια σε συνδιασμό με το σκηνικό που έχεις στήσει, δεν έχει να ζηλέψει σε τίποτα αντίστοιχους σταθμούς που έχουμε δει σε ταινίες Far West.Εξαιρετική προοπτική και οξύτητα.
