A Monk at the Hemis Gompa sharing a joke. Decided to repost this one with a crop and a frame..there is something so simple and real in his expression...

"his form with indifference see...." - George Bernard Shaw ? :)

Alongside is the customised drum which is used for rituals and ceremonies.

Buddhism is often described as a religion and a collection of various philosophies, based initially on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, known as Gautama Buddha.

To many, however, Buddhism is not a religion, nor a philosophy or a set of doctrines, but rather teachings to guide one to directly experiencing reality. Buddhism is also known as Buddha Dharma or Dhamma, which means roughly the "teachings of the Awakened One" in Sanskrit and Pali, languages of ancient Buddhist texts.

Buddhism began around 5th century BC with the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who was born in Ancient India, and is hereafter referred to as "the Buddha."

cheers.

Hello Sayeed,

Can we smile like him?
A SMILE WORTH A LIFE...

Namasthe.

jean paul

Nice shot Sayeed. The monk's wonderful smile really makes it. I had a look at the original version and this is certainly a big improvement: composition is more effective, the colours are more saturated and the face is now in focus.
Regards
John

hello Sayeed,
compared to the original version this is so, so, SO much better, you've done wonders, friend :) the crop you've chosen is just right - it focuses on the face, but still include all the necessary elements to illustrate his life. love the colours, so rich, while remaining elegan. excellent work, my compliments!
best,
Kristine

Hi Sayeed, A nicely composed portrait of this monk as he plays the drum, "I must admit he looks very happy in his work", the deep reds of his clothing have been captured beautifully &, your POV is perfect, great shot & TFS, kind regards Wilson.

You've done that very effectively here, your repost is better and improve the whole picture, now, it couldn't have been better framed with the solid drum near his face.

Hi, Sayeed -

Yes, this is much improved over the previous version (which was good, even so). You came close to cropping too much at the top, where the drum ornament almost touches the frame. Otherwise, very nice job!

Hey Sayeed,

Great smile you caught on this man. I like his red clothing matched with his red tuque (what we call his red hat in Canada).

It's an interesting looking drum, with an interesting tool to beat it with.

I like this smile when I see it from miles away, Sayeed. I wish you have that smile too, it will bring you extra 5000 bonus points.

I find that you have cleverly framed this without showing his feet (why, he has no feet?) although I would very much like to see them, and find out what type of shoe-wear.

In particular, I like his trademark smile, very contagious. I wonder if he tells fortunes, if so, you will have big ones Sayeed. And he is no ordinary monk, he wears a modern zipper-shirt, in red/black, and his outer coat has silver/pearl buttons.

I like his cap. He smiles until his eyes is a line. Well done, Sayeed, but just bring back his feet, for me, it may bring me fortunes!

TFS, cheers

Hi Sayeed,
what a happy smile! I smile in return and I think you did a very nice job indeed in comparison to the original! I like your vertical, tight, close framing, the way you caught him in this activity, the corner of the wall in the background provides a nice graphism of lines in contrast to the roundness of the gong. I may have used a tool to take away that bit of something on the left, but that's a tiny detail. Great rendering of the warm colors...

Hi Sayeed.

The monk and the expression of his face are amazing. Also I like your note and how he plays the drum.

HI Sayeed!
what a lovely portrait, what a friendly smile!!
And I like the composition, I see here a "double portrait": also his drum has a face! There is a relationship between the man's face and the drum shape, this is what I mean
Nice work!!

Hello Sayeed,
A very good portrait of this man and his infectious smile. I like the lighting and the tight crop putting the appropriate emphasis on the man and his drum. Good colours and clarity.

I see that all the modern world trappings are used, don't blame him its probably cold. A nice thermal jacket and woolly hat. I like his smile and they way you have composed the shot althought if you had taken the photo just a bit lower down it might have just given the photo that real extra wow factor.
I think it is because you are slightly higher than he was.

Un buen retrato, el fotógrafo en sintonía con el sujeto retratado, quizá corregiría el encuadre cogiendo al hombre sólo a partir de su cintura o bien de cuerpo entero e incluyendo sus pies.
