A blessed moment : already in the afternoon, most of the customers had left. Still amazed of the kind hospitality of these young men : I was refused a single glass of mint tea by the restaurants around (did not want a whole tea pot as I feared for the consequences, no WC around) ; having heard my demand as they were sitting not far, they invited me to join them and offered very naturally what I was asking for. The difference of age did not seem to matter to them and they were not so curious about me, it seemed just natural...

At that time, one of them was smoking "kif" and offered also his pipe, which I could not accept (you never know, in public, as it is forbidden), then their meal arrived and first I refused to eat but as they insisted again, seeing that they had too much of it, I finally ate some of the delicious sardines (the meal of the poor, and the only available food in those restaurants) and fresh bread.

As the portions were so big, there was still fish and bread remaining and the guy in the middle, who was moving all the time, had the nice idea to pass the rest to an old destitute man sitting nearby, who had been offered tea by other customers.

(NB : I have taken so many photos of people in those interesting makeshift restaurants in weekly markets, but there is often a problem of light). Here are 2 more shots : interesting fashion, trying my sunglasses and FYI : the outside of a similar restaurant, (the 2nd photo being, I must admit, of very poor quality but still informative IMO).

A lovely composition that brings out the intrinsic beauty of the image with some amazing colours and lovely textures. the contrasts work fine as well while the lights and other parameters are greatly managed. good work with a superb pov and perspective.

Bonjour Catherine

I like the warm yellow red & ochre colours predominating here. A superb daily life scene with good sharpness. Good to have one man, at least, preoccupied with the meal. Merci pour ce partage. C'est tres bon!

Hi Catherine,
I like that food ... simple, unpretentious, and filling. Sometimes I miss eating with my hands just like what I used to do when growing up. You certainly have a talent of getting across people and getting their trust. To capture such a casual scene is quite hard because tendency people automatically pose. Superbly captured ... excellent work! Tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hello Catherine,
Your photo and Note are compelling and absorbing. A terrific photojournalsitic piece. This is my kind of adventure. Greetings! Danilo

Bonjour Catherine,
Tu as du effectivement passer un beau moment de partage avec ces trois jeunes comme seuls les pays musulmans savent le faire avec tant de spontanéité.
Belle composition et très bonne gestion de l'exposition avec ce fort contre jour.
Amitiés,
Pierre

Well composed - a different setting. Lots to see in this shot Cath, which seems to have culminated after refusal of tea from one group though ultimately leading to an invitation of a sumptuous lunch from another. Lucky you. Liked the looks of the boys on either side. Kettles on the oven, one unfilled and two half-filled glasses of tea, the bread and the sardines and last but not the least your apprehensions about post-tea situations! Well narrated. Regards.

Hello Catherine. The restaurant and the people are really very interesting. Everything works here very simply and functionally. But the people are content, as one sees at the faces. The photo is very alive and descriptive. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Bonjour Catherine,

Admiration! alain

That absolutely delightful 'contact has been established, ladies & gentlemen' factor in this marvel - sucked me in and it’s holding me tight...

For, I love those close encounters more than anything else in photography...
It is that feeling of talking, seeing, meeting strange people - that keeps me breathing deeply.
And if I am able to take a few shots of them and present them to the word - I'm more than ecstatic...

Never EVER boring theme in photography...

Quite honestly - the ONLY never boring theme in photography...

People...!!!
Us !!!
Them...

Warm regards, dear gal
