Falling in love with Peru

Slowly, but... Surely...

***********
Shot inside the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport in Cuzco, AGAINST one of those very bright, huge airport windows (to watch the flights)…
20mm… That means - getting my lens foggy from his breath…
Also: It means, I had to drop a buck or two into the box (which I happily obliged).

And yes… The small crowd of tourists was clicking their automats - standing respectfully several meters away.

And no… They didn’t have to drop their coins into box…
They were simply too far, displaying their full respect for the musicians…

I guess, I was the only disrespectful moron in there, on that flight.

………

Sunday kind of photo... Isn't it ???

Hi George - you've really pushed the exposure to the limit here - and it works amazingly well. It certainly adds a touch of mysticism to the overall atmosphere. Powerful diagonal. Excellent. Roberto

Hi George. You seem to be getting the hang of this photography game, don't you?!! (I am joking)

What a fantastic image. it almost glows off the screen. There's no doubt in my mind that this image could not have been created with digital a the highlights would simply not exist.

You must tell me how you have processed this shot as it is a stunner.

Regards, Paul.

Hi George,
"Falling in love with Peru"...I see this an all your photos for the beautiful country!
Great capture of the traditional musician...what I like most,is the "handle" of the white part,a technique so difficult for me...maybe in the future try something like this dreamy picture...

All the best to you,
Thomas

Oh dear! What a beauty!
You go strong with the highlights. The curious girl in me wishes to know how... But the serious girl knows that you will not answer! A man has to keep some secrets, I know! :))
It's bold. It's daring. I might reserve a little surprise for you today... ;)
I like the dual plan here, with the two players. The first one, in the foreground, is more Peruvian than a Peruvian! So proud, so dignified, so beautiful. How is it possible to not fall in love with Peru, you tell me!
I especially like the small dot of light in each eye.
Paul has said it quite rightly "it almost glows off the screen"...
It's daring. And it works. But it might not gather tons of points! :)))

Hi George,
Strange but quite effectfull technique you've utilised here.
Very good pov and nice compo.I like the blurred gitarrist at the background.
TFS and best regards

Each day, a different sort of surprise... The dreamy look of the handsome flutist is inspiring ; about the grains : IMO, they look splendid here (the reds and greens !), ... but the overexposure ??

What can I say, as I don't know much about the rules in this art (- and don't understand why some TE photos get so good ratings, when I find them extremely boring and ordinary, even if "flawless" = "like a good photocopy machine", a friend of mine uses to tell !)

Isn't interpretation primordial ? Aren't rules meant to be broken once in a while ? - And here, a photo taken with your heart : what's better than that ?
... But forgive me to tell, IMHO this one is not as strong than the 2 preceding ones, even if love is included !

As often as I can, till my departure for India in a little more than one month, I'll visit your gallery as I always learn something...

Amitiés et bonne semaine,
Cath.
(PS : Never been in Peru but can understand that one falls in love with a country, personally I have many such loves : Italy, Turkey + now, Morocco etc, - but my biggest and longest and deepest love (and hate) affair is with India where I already dread to return : it's been almost 30 years !)

Hello George, the way you sink this man into the beams of light is extraordinary and very much to my taste! The harsh red contrast of the outfits is a great counter measure for the white washed part of the frame! I love this photo!
congrats!
Eric

Jestem zachwycona.

Is the digital world taking over the "real" world? Is post processing taking over the photographic world? I don't know, but it sure can be impressive. I can be an artist, even if I'm not a good photographer...or...you can beat on our face even harder. How greyish the world (TE) would be without your (in)sanity, George. Thanks for showing it to us. Continue to dare, because I can't. Beautiful presentation, wonderful diagonal, great shot.
All the best,
ricardo

Hello George,

None of the others clicking their cameras could have produced this image from afar. Your proximity has created an intimacy, and I bet the music was compelling.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hello George,
A high key treatment in a very colourful foreground, i have not seen that so many times. Looking a bit longer and i find that the man in the back playes an important role in the picture, even if he is oof. The player in front seems concentrated but aware of your present i think.
A picture i would never make in the way it is here presented, but form you man can expect everything and makes it a typical George photo (whatever that may be) and gives your trademark on it.
Exeptional work...i really like it..!!!
Regards, Henk

immediate association - "Lonely Shepherd" by Gheorghe Zamfir, music that I fell in love with the first time I heard it about 25 years ago.
-------------
wrote this yesterday and since then have been trying to come up with an idea how to continue. on the one had, I realise that just by mentioning that piece of music I don't really say anything. on the other - well, it always make me think of crisp mornings somewhere high up in Andes with sun just peaking behind the mountain ridge and dew sparkling. you know, the mountains like those where religions are born. I probably wouldn't be able to explain what all this has to do with the photo, other than that this man looks like he might have just come from a place like that. do I make any sense? I'm looking at a 12-hour meeting today, it might already affect my cognitive abilities.

love how you composed the photo, I have this Thing for strong diagonals, I think they create this elegant sense of smooth motion. just a beautiful photo.

with best regards,
Kristine

Hi George,

i regret you went for all this digital treatment again, aesthetically it gave your image a very pleasing look but on the other side a kind of a CD cover quality...as per the scene itself it is almost perfectly crafted...especially the second plan charrango musician...it is composed so well that it can very exactly fill my simplified perception about the so called Andean music i know from the high streets of European cities...

in the end i just though i may share with you one of my favourite links:
Música Andina - the page sometimes opens weird pop ups...simply close them & try again, please...no harm to your PC intended...hope you like it...some groups are from Bolivia some from Peru...i had the opportunity to see some of those bands live on stage...cheers, arturo
