Contemporary research suggests that the rock paintings found in southern Africa are the work of the San people. About 2400 engravings/paintings have been recorded at Twyfelfontein, about 80km west of Khorixas. Twyfelfontein has recently been declared a UNESCO world heritage site where the largest collection of rock paintings in southern Africa is found.
The rock art entails, amongst other, paintings of unidentified antilope, gemsbok, springbok, ostrich, zebra, rhinoceros and humans. |
