[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Occasionally, I find that the people of a country are just as important & photogenic, as any landscape or sunset. There were 3 things happening here. The man in the middle waving, the Moslem girl picking up a leaflet off the street, & the sideways glance of one of the rickshaw drivers in the bicycle / rickshaw lane. This was a grab shot that happened unexpectedly.

If anyone reads the local Bangladeshi script, I'd love to know what they were protesting. Many appear to be wearing what look like Xmas party hats. Taken on 1/1/2000 about 3 km from Dhaka International Airport, which is 25 km from the cbd.

What look like trees in the background is a construction site, with rusty reinforced steel spikes poking out of numerous concrete pillars.

Thanks to avis2avis for the translation from Bengali:

loosely translated it does mean:

"MILLENIUM RALLY

We are spreading our wings in this new Millennium
Our world is bound together by hope/aspirations.

Uttara Child Theater"

Amicalement/Pierre

Very nice capture here Chris,
Good composition, very good noter, Very good job

Désolée, Chris mes notions en langue asiatique sont très limitées, enfin ils n'ont pas l'air d'être trop en colère. De bonne couleurs.

A colourful image Chris, the text cannot I read but everything look forward to peacefully, well seen!

C'est vraie Chris il faut savoir changer de sujet. Bonne réalisation, photo lumineuse. Bien vue.

The change of scenery that your pictures bring is probably the main target of TE, the Earth discovery by its places and people.
I'm not sure that these folks are in strike. Perhaps local festivities ?
Yet a beautiful picture with nice details increased by a colour palette very large and an ambient light playing its role :)
Effectively these "artificial trees" in the background are surprizing. A picture ? :)

Hi Chris,

I like this documentary photo. I like the colors and people expresion.

Well done

nice work here, I like the street march, very good note and the colours are great

well done

A classical TE shot, Chris, with this fine street scene from Bangladesh. A lot of engaging detail is present in your frame, and the colors are very nice. They look like a rather cheerful crowd. Well done.

Nice colour and action Chris - you've taken a good documentary shot, even if we're not sure exactly what you're documenting! :) Seems as if they're celebrating rather than protesting. They're happy to be on camera too.

A very good real life shot, Chris. By there smiles, I can say that their protesr is quite happy. Bangaladesh? What y\were you doing there?

Trnslation of the Bengali Script in this photo

talking about bangladesh..
this country i think is the richest in south asia when it comes to photography..
there is just soooo much talent here... so many potential legends in my opinion.
i dont remember the names of the bangladeshi photographers.. there are too many good ones.. but i can't get over the black and white images that i've seen from this country..
some of the strongest i've come across ..
in india we have 1 raghu rai.. , but it seems like there are quite a few potential raghu rais in bangladesh.
it's a pity i haven't come across bangladeshi photographers on this site.

about this photograph..
i think i would prefer this one in black and white.. although i do like the oldish colours in this one .., somehow i always see such processions etc as going down in the archives.. and i've always seen historical photographs in black and white. b&w i think adds it's own atmosphere which i think will be very suitable here
take care :)

Hi Chris, I guess you must be on holidays, you post less regularly nowadays - so I looked again at your photos of Bangladesh (we had both a photo as "featured destination, Dhaka" yesterday on TE's 1st page) - I enjoy a lot looking at this one, it is so typical, not only the demonstration but the friendly way they'll still gesture at you even when repeating slogans - Bengal is very politicized, both sides of the border !
TFS,
Cath.
