Photographer’s Note
In the old Athy cemetery, this cross over a grave had been broken and partially absorbed by a tree in the century or more since it was placed. It seems to have become a place favoured with some locals who have placed various mementos of others who have died more recently.
Cemeteries are often bleak places that never change, but simply age and degrade over time. This tree seems to be saying that, although individuals may come and go, nature and life itself goes on.
