Photographer’s Note

These are distributaries of the beautiful Nubra River ( Sayak River ) which runs right through Nubra valley - North Ladakh ( India ). Alt - 12500ft.

The emerald green water meandering along the valley is simply breathtaking.

At certain areas the river cuts through sandy terrain which is quite rare.

Hi Sayeed. Lovely shot and great, subtle colours. The river must be quite powerful not to be absorbed into a sandy landscape - or there must be some geology beneath that 'supports' it.

I'm not so keen on the top 'third' of the shot and I believe it might look ever better (difficult) if you crop out from where the fields touch the right edge of the photo. Just a suggestion.

It is breathtaking indeed...and it also has something of abstraction, if you cropped the upper part that would be even more visible, but I also like it very much like this, two photos in one:-) superb colors...

Sayeed,
a very interesting landscape with an almost surreal or abstract looking. You might crop it even more and that effect would have been more evident. However you opted in giving some additional information of the place. I guess that the esmerald color of the water is due to glacier melt. Right?

well, Sayeed, let me confess - I would've loved to have taken this shot :)) lately I've been obsessed with patterns, geometrical lines and somewhat abstract photos, and your shot nicely illustrates the reason. love the contrast between the bright colour of the water and the pastel land, love the gentle shapes and curves, love the different textures. on top of that you have strong diagonal lines in the shot that I've always liked, I find they add a nice smooth motion to the scene.

Hi, Sayeed -

A very interesting composition of natural patterns. I don't agree with some of the other critiquers who think it should have been cropped (I tried it out to see for myself), although you might have tried toning down some of the white area on the top; although not blown out, it's bright enough to be a bit of a distraction. Minor point, though.

Thanks again for the suggestion for the title. As for this photo. While it has garnered alot of attention, I do not think this is your best work. The rivers are indeed beautiful (the colours are stunning) the top part of the frame is over-exposed, and it doesn't seem to be very sharp (is it zoomed in?). I'm just being extra-critical as I have loved some of your previous work in this area of India :)

Truly beautiful..love the emerald green water of the river flowing through the sand banks. Is that ice we see on the sand? I might have wanted the top to be cropped off. An almost surreal or abstract looking landscape which you have captured well. Good work!

I like the overall impact of this shot, Sayeed. By cropping it closer than a typical landscape shot from this POV you've introduced an abstract feel to it, but at the same time you've retained just enough of the shorelines on either side for us to appreciate the landscape through which this river runs.
