Chestnut cellar Photo

Photographer’s Note

For those who think, like I did in the past, that cellar is an underground room: yes, but there are exceptions.
In Cák (click on the map left) cellar means also small hut originally used for wine-press house until the end of the 19th century when phyloxera destroyed the grape plantations. Then people, looking for other incomes, found the chestnut as a promising alternative of wine being the Kőszegi mountain the only region in Hungary with acceptable conditions for chestnut-trees. Thus the former "wine cellars" were transformed into barns where chestnut was dried and stored. The simple but nice buildings are no more in use, they are protected as part of the regional museum.
In the WS you can find pictures showing more cellars and the wall construction.

Dies ist aber wirklich ein wunderschönes Motiv! Hier stimmt ja einfach alles - auch Dein Kommentar! Das Licht, die Farben, dieses Strohdachhaus - eine wahre Symphonie! Ein Foto "zum "Hineinträumen"! ...und der Halbmond ist auch noch da! ;-)

hàt igen, nagyon szèp napunk volt aznap, csodàlatosan tiszta fènyekkel ès gyonyoru szìnekkel ès ez a nagyon szèp ès èrdekes fotòd alapjàn is làthatò. Tetszik a portrè formàtum, a kìvàlò kompozìciò ès a szìnpompa. Kis hìjàn, majdhogynem osszefutottunk aznap (:D.

sehr farbenprächtiges Herbstbild und der Mond ist ein kleines Bonbon im Himmel. Besonders das Strohdach fasziniert mich und die rundum guten Kontraste. Esskastanien waren früher in vielen Gegenden Europas das Brot der armen Leute (wenn ich das richtig weiß).

hi Laszlo, those colours deserve to praise: nice fall atmosphere, perfect PoV. I only see some compression problems (around branches) and maybe to big shaprness of the whole image. but the placve is fantastic and the moon looks like a quite nice addition. regards!

you have a whole tourist information collected in your gallery!
This picture was just smashing into my eyes with intense and beautiful colors. Your composition is very fine. I might like to cut down the FG tree at the left side, but thats probably too drastical just for a picture.. :-)

The most beautiful image of this house surrounded with trees with nice colors. I like this moon appearing to seeing the landscape for between the branches and this intense blue sky that gives him great contrast.

The colors and composition of this shot are fabulous. I very much like your POV with the large tree limbs in the foreground framing the wine cellar so nicely. Your focus on the subject is highlighted well with the tight crop. The half moon shining in the bright blue sky is special.

What an interesting and excellent note about cellars and chestnut wine. I did not know wine can be made from chestnuts and wonder how the taste of it compares with grape wine.

Nice post of autumn with yellow and red leaves contrasting with the blue sky, a small white thatch roof hut in the green meadows. Vivid colours, good light with enhances the leaves and roof aspects.

hier ist dir ja ein richtiges Meisterstück gelungen. Die Farbpalette ist üppig und wunderschön. Vor allem der Kontrast zwischen den Herbstfarben der Bäume und dem tiefen Blau vom Himmel ist hervorragend. Und als kleine Überraschung findet man dort auch noch den Halbmond zwischen den kargen Ästen versteckt. Der Betrachtungsstandort und das vertikale Format sind gut gewählt und das Licht ist speziell im unteren Teil sehr schön, weil es sich mit schattigen Stellen abwechselt. Wie eingangs schon erwähnt, ein Meisterstück.

Hello Laszlo,

I have been perusing your fabulous shots among your favorites, and this gem from two years ago is one that I especially like. The rich colors, the painterly composition, and the informative note — collaborate to make it a spectacular gift to Trekearth. There is something both inspiring and sad at the same time when an old cottage is seen with collapsing roof. One of my favorites dates back 36 years, and also Needs Restoration, but it will never see light and colors like your "Chestnut Cellar."

Good Morning Laszlo, Another great shot. You probably won't ever see this comment as this picture was posted some time ago, but I really like the colors and the autumn time frame. I remember many years ago on the streets of Vienna and Linz, buying Maroni, not sure that is the correct spelling, but seeing this brings back those memories. I will look at some more of your shots. Interesting history on this cellar and an eye-catching photo. Wonderful, bright, natural colours with interesting architecture to the cellar. Stellar blue sky and a deep green grass. Textures a plenty. Nicely done!
