Photographer’s Note

This is the big bubble of the strokkur geyser in Iceland.

Strokkur (Icelandic for "churn") is a geyser in the geothermic region beside the Hvítá River in Iceland. Strokkur is only a few metres away from Geysir.

However, unlike the big Geysir which does not erupt anymore and may be dormant for years at a time, Strokkur erupts very reliably every 5-10 minutes, hurling boiling water to heights of up to 20 metres towards the sky. After a few seconds, the fountain subsides and the waters around it calms down. During these times, Strokkur appears as a sheet of clear water surrounded by steam.

On the picture is the big bubble at the start of the eruption. This is not something one can see without taking a picture at a fast speed. It is like the bubbles in the solfatares .

Very nice photo and description!
Is Nature for sure but a Decisive Moment too.
Very good colours and light. The motive is just where it has to be!

Bonjour Michel,

Quel étrange phénomène, on pourrait croire à une création "PhotoShop" tellement l'image sort du réel, mais on commence à y croire beaucoup plus quand on voit que c'est une photographie d'Icelande. Trsè jolies couleurs et POV. J'aime bien l'angle de vue que nous laisse imaginer un surfeur sur cette bulle bleue.

In Iceland you can enjoy nature at its wildest and original stage.
I could even figure out that bubble could be some alien or some special effect...on the contrary it is just nature!

Salut Michel,
c'est le moment que je préfère,impressionnant, avec ce bon vieux Strokkur! Effectivement un air de science-fiction. Je n'ai pas réussi à l'avoir aussi près et aussi net avec ma petite caméra et moi débutante, et me réjouis de le retrouver aussi bien capté!!

c'est une belle photo et rare car prendre la bulle ça prend du temps. On dirait le ventre d'une femme enceinte, c'est une image qui me plait.

Bonjour Michel,
On s'est en effet croisé cet été mais j'étais déjà rentrée quand tu as pris cette photo. Tu n'as pas eu trop de chance avec le temps ce jour-là. Néanmoins, ta bulle est superbe. Prise juste au bon moment à son amplitude maximale avant qu'elle n'éclate.
La photo aurait pu être moins sombre, plus contrastée et débarassée de la dominante jaune salasse typique des temps pluvieux mais on lui pardonne car ... on ne voit pas ça tous les jours !
