GALLERY VISIONS
In this shot I would like te tell you about 2 facts about the Tate, architectural design and security, I chose this two subjects because that’s what is showing on this shot.
First the structural design, as I mentioned on my first shot of 15 which can be seen HERE this building was a former PowerStation providing electricity for a large part of south London until the 1980`s when it was no longer viable to use diesel as a method of energy making.
In 1994 the Tate Organization bought the Bankside power station and then began the mammoth task of converting it to an environment capable of housing their vast art collection, now, this brings me to the wall structure that you can see on this shot, most of you will know that there is a downward ramp entrance trough here into the main building hall which can be seen from inside on this PHOTO but for the ones that don`t this is considered the main entrance to the building although the most popular is the one by the Thames river and next to the millennium bridge, but the main entrance was not always there, this entrance was created by opening an underground tunnel whilst holding the west wall (pictured) in place using mega giant metal casings, a concrete ramp was then added from the outside leading all the way in.
Tate security is provided by a contracted company call Wilson James Ltd, such is their reputation that they have been operating in the Tate Modern since 1995, they are not to be confused with the more modest gallery assistants which as the title implies simply mind the galleries and art works although they can be assisted by security if help was required in dealing with a member of the public.
Tate did not wanted their security to look too serious or threatening, instead they prefer a more approachable and tolerant but firm security that can be helpful to any visitor coming in while at the same time provide the security needed to ensure everyone’s safety while having a pleasant experience, due to this view the uniforms have changed with the times, the uniform seen on this security staff is in use presently except the polo shirt which was replaced with a presently worn burgundy shirts, many thanks to all for dropping by. |

Daniel

Hi Joao
I like this Tate series of yours!
Specially there is a lot of good B&W pictures in it.
The angle on this one works very well.
