Photographer’s Note

Recently I was walking by Christie's auction house, and came upon a giant sapphire in front of their main entrance. Beside it was an array of modern art, including the 1963 painting entitled "Liz" by Andy Warhol. There was an auction held a few days ago, and this painting was being offered. It was valued at $25-$35 million!!!

I was able to catch some reflections from Rockefeller Plaza, and the entrance to the observation deck, in some of the facets. This photo represents one of the facets of NYC: extravagance for those who can afford it...

Hi Brenda,
Nice nice positioning of the huge sapphire and the ultra expensive Warhol. You really caught a lot of detail here.
I can't believe that it was valued at that price! Well it goes to show that there is just something new going on near Rockefeller Plaza like every week!

hai fatto una bellissima composizione, direi arte su arte. L'oggetto a forma di diamante blu è molto bello ed i suoi riflessi sono uno specchio di ciò che circonda attorno. L'abbinamento ed i colori del quadro di Andy Warhol sono perfetti. Hai fatto veramente un lavoro interessante. Brava, mi piacerebbe vedere spesso tue foto.

This is like the flipside of my post today, Brenda. This go-go city is getting out of control. But the photo stands on its aesthetic qualities more even than its social commentary. You chose a good angle, with Líz's left eye just on the other side of that vertical beam. And, of course, sehe seems to be eyeing that giant jewel. Not a diamond, but still a girl's good friend. What a dramatic image — a juxtaposition of the colossal sapphire, a youthful image of Elizabeth Taylor in the Andy Warhol creation, and of course the reflections of the skyline on the shiny surface of the sapphire. Creative shot, with excellent resolution and colors.

el cuadro de Warhol tiene este precio? Wow! Me gusta, pero no puedo pagarlo ;o)
Tu encuadre es muy efectivo y tiene un fuerte atractivo, por el cuadro con Liz Tayor, y sobre todo por el enorme anillo con este gran zafiro azul donde se refleja parte del Rockefeller Plaza.
Me gusta el grafismo que nos ofreces en esta composición tan bien vista y tan bien hecha. Tuviste una gran idea.

love this shot, Brenda, it's loaded with fascinating details and layers of reflections. but what I particularly like is the simple, but very effective composition with the direction of "Liz's" look and the saphire forming a strong diagonal line. I've only just started to discover NYC from a perspective of a bit abstract photos, and your galery is quite an inspiration, thanks for sharing :)

Nice photo.Beautiful colors and composition. Large, imposing objects an sometimes a bit over the top,but that is Andy Warhol in optima forma.
