Hello, Dom, welcome to TE!
I remember these deer from my visit to Nara some years back. I had bought a hot imo (Jeapanse sweet potato) from a street vendor, and this one deer followed me around demanding that I give him some. He looked very hurt when I wouldn't.
You've got an interesting story here. The deer and the people are well positioned. But I would cut off the sky, as it adds nothing. I also don't know why you made the image so narrow that the deer fills the foreground, unless you had to cut off something. Putting the deer a little off center would make it even more of an interesting shot.
Isn't the D80 fun?
Regards,
Dan
