Photographer’s Note
Continuing with the series of images caught in my visit to the Ecological Reserve Costanera Sur, I tried during kilometers of long walk, to portray a turtle aquatic without success, given the distance in which they were and the foliage that hid them.
In a while, I found in the edge of the embankment that borders the access roads a turtle totally ready "to model". Of there this image that it wanted to share with you.
In Argentina, the turtle of lagoon - Phrynops hilarii- has ample distribution in the tie region with the water bodies of the river basins of the Parana rivers and Uruguay, arriving by the south until the northern sector of the province from Buenos Aires. The species lives in addition in almost all Uruguay, the south of Brazil and great part of Paraguay.
They are excellent swimmer due to the modifications that in the course of the
evolution it has undergone its anatomy, equipped with a hydrodynamic design, since the shell - considerably smooth is tablet in its dorsal and ventral part. Also the extremities are flattened backwards; in addition they have membranes between the fingers that when extending they facilitate swimming.
The turtle of lagoon is carnivorous; it consumes alive and dead prey. The components of their diet varies in agreement with the age and the station of the year: the young they feed fundamentally with insects, snails and tadpoles; the adults consume insects, fish, pichones of birds and small mammals. Its main predators they are reptiles (like the yacare) and birds (like the storks), that eat eggs and youthful units. The size of the prey and its diet change as they grow, when also it increases his voracity.

Ricardo:
Me gusta;

very good work here, I like the dof here and the focus is so good that you can see the change of skin.
Well done and good composition

Great shot. At first I thought it was a snake, but a frog is good as well. And probably not as dangerous to take such a shot! Very nice portrait, very sharp on its face. What I think is especially remarkable, is the black line that continuous through the eyes. Never noticed that before. Very good work!

Bravo.

Please, do not look at me with these eyes!
I note that you appreciate new points of view, Ricardo.Superb in any way in this case. The picture appears a little over-exposed and that does not harm insofar as our glance is irremediably attracted by that of this turtle. Bravo.

It would be necessary that the tortoise thinks of making up itself so that l'on can look at it. It makes fear such qu'elle is! Not easy to photograph these large animals. Congratulations for photography and the note d'accompagnement Ricardo.

Well, this surely is a creature I didn't have the pleasure to look into the eyes before ... Very impressive anatomical details on the head of this turtle, Ricardo, and the slightly diagonal viewpoint enhances this good composition with surprising colors. Well done.

Great colors and DoF and very good details. The only problem I have is this looks more like a macro and not close up on the frog. You may have a got little too close to the subject here than necessary IMHO. However, you did manage to fool me into thinking this was a snake. :)

Fine capture of this turtle, Ricardo. Due to the very well chosen DoF our attention is drawn to the front of his head. You captured the colours and scruffy looking texture of his skin very well and the black line, continued thru the eyes looks very interesting. Great job.

Very nice note! The photo is also very good with great colors, textures and details. Just a bit more DOF in the head area would be nice but nothing too serious.

Impressive picture Ricardo! At the first look I thought that it was a snake, but after reading your text I see that it is a smiling turtle =). Great angle for this image!
