The House and the Rose Photo

Photographer’s Note

One of the old and semi-abandoned buildings in the country near Bologna. My attention was captured by the rose which somehow clashed with the almost ruinded face of the building.

There are several buildings of this kind in the country in Pianura Padana, very often with great warm colors, which new buildings do not have. They were farmer's houses which are now often used to store material, if not completely abandoned. Some of them are actually very old, even several centuries, and cannot be simply rebuilt from scratch, as the original plan and construction has to be conserved for historical reasons.

Hello Stefano,
The rose certainly adds something to the picture, but it would have been nice even without it. The bricks provide an intriguing pattern and I love the colour and texture of the wooden window shutters.

Che storia in questi mattoni!
Tanti colori in un muro, e in più, cissima, la rosa.

Certp è un bel problema quello di riusare le grandi case coloniche della pianura padana. Sono spesso enormi: i costi per il restauro enormi anche quelli. E per che farne? dei condomìni?

Dalle mie parti abbiamo grandissime caserme abbandonate, strutture anche di ettari.

Bellissima immagine che porta alla ribalta il problema di come utilizzare tutte le vecchie costruzioni, purtroppo o sono valorizzate da qualche ente pubblico o il loro destino è segnato: un vero peccato perdere tutta la storia che portano con sè !

And another thank you for showing these old houses with fading beauty. For me they hold more beauty than new ones, and your photos have inspired me to visit the surroundings of Bologna as well :-) Here I like the colour flow from red to grey and the rose which adds to the beauty :-)
