Photographer’s Note
Most people who take photos of Shannon Falls try to capture the height inside the frame. While visiting this falls I thought of capturing some water highlights as the sun angle shone down through the rock cliff. I thought this made an interesting study by zooming in at 94mm. I know some will suggest a black and white version but I prefer to show the natural color of the rocks here. Enjoy!

Hello Paul,
I believe as you do with this image that the color of the rocks is far more important to the strength of the image. There is not enough contrast in the scene to warrant a B/W. The shape of the rocks and the highlights are excellent here, as is the shutter speed you chose to portray the water.
Excellent choices all!

I have done this as well and I like what you have here. Good control of the light.

Good shot Paul! Having been to this place myself, I know that it's not easy to come up with something different and interesting, but this detail of part of the falls works. Great lighting too. Since it's usually in shadow I'm wondering when you took this. Well executed shot!

Photographier une chute d'eau n'est pas un art très facile. Tu as très bien réussi en téalisant cette belle composition avec ces rochers à peine effleurés par la lumière et ce discret filé sur l'eau qui donne vraiment la sensation de la voir couler.

Hi Paul,
Very nice shot of Shannon Falls - just right right movement on the water to avoid the silky look. I love the wee fall on the upper left - doing its own thing well away from the main stream. Good contrasts and very well composed with the water entering the scene upper right and leaving lower left. Well done and TFS. Gerald

Hi Paul,
Truly a masterly shot, and I see you are still making good use of the 70-200. There is great depth, fine lighting, and clear detail. What is most alluring though is just the right balance in the appearance of the water, without it appearing too silky. Good also to hear from you again and catch up on your travels and photos...Cheers.

Hey Paul. You did a nice job with choosing your alternative composition here. I might have been tempted to do an even longer shutter speed here for more blur. That's a contrasty scene to handle and you nailed it just right. tfs Paul.

Hi Paul, A wonderful capture of this beautiful waterfall, ice cold but refreshing, great exposure, the light is near perfect, brilliantly composed from corner to corner, TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Hi there,
thanks for your visit! This is a great photo..it is usually quite difficult to make good pictures of waterfalls, but you managed greatly here: the exposure is just right and the framing works fine. Looks very big and impressive! Cheers, Léonie

Hi Paul
You've made an interesting point in your note. You mentioned how people like to zoom out and get the whole shot of the waterfall, while you wanted to look at the waterfall within the waterfall.
I'll keep that in mind the next time i shoot a similar scene.
I'm glad you posted whit is colour, as the brown tinge on the left, created by the sunlight is my favorite part of the photo.
I'm a lover of angles in photography, and you've captured several of them here.
i look forward to your next posting
Cheers
Craig
