Dear Sohrab,
Good to see you post again. This time the stormy sea. The spray is critically sharp..as if taken with a flash, but if I know you I doubt you used a flash. Probably a short exposure on a highly pushed film. A rather unusual photo, excellent rendition of the tonal range.

What moves me here is the power of water. It is quite unlike the playful sketch of turbulent waters done by Leonardo. Here there is a sense of deep restlessness, of anxiety and resignation, perhaps of fear. Allusion to the happenings at this same coast a few years ago, of waves breaking here, traveling over the expanse of the sea some thousand miles, is recalled with a historical clarity. But more generally it also recalls man's fear of the depth.

You have inspired me to go out and shoot like this.

Hmmm...I sortof wondered if you'd post this shot here. To me it shows your maturity. I mean, lookers always become comfortable with the repetative aspects of someones photography (art etc...), they find something they like and hold you to their standards. No offense to Rajeev of course, but that type of demand on an artist can hold them back and prevent their development (if the artist falls victom to the praise). It happens all the time, a young rebel who ends up going through the motions over their life...When one is never satisfied with their production, they never cease to invent new avenues for their expression.

What do I like about this shot...simply, I love the ocean. I love waves at night...The distant sound of heavy water rolling across the sand.
I remember walking along the beach and noticing the bioluminescence of some organism in the surf...not sure if I saw a glow or my eyes were playing tricks in the dark...

ahh...this has your touch all over it...can anyone else take a photograph of a wave breaking in to the midst of the night? yes one can...one does...plenty of those...those are sharp, high resolution, colored, full of action...but when it's you, it's the wave breaking on my laptop screen with a story of 'darkness' so strong that i fear i may never want to go back to the 'lights' the way the world sees it. so warm, so close, so soulful and noisy..your sea :)

Hi Sohrab,
this is the first pic of you that I see, will have a look later at the others, as I've read the comments...
My reaction is that I like it...somehow... I think the format is really small for such a kind of picture, I'd love to see it printed on a large canvas, like a painting, to get the real feeling out of it.
But I love the sea, the night, the monsoon effect is great, it makes me close my eyes and think back of the times I've been along the ocean at night...I think it's great that you are making these experiences!
