The statue shown in the photograph is at the Virabhadra temple at Lepakshi, India. The statue is carved out of a natural boulder. The seven hooded naga (serpent) shelters a black polished shiva lingam cradled in its coils.
Virabhadra Temple at Lepakshi was built in the mid-16th century by Viranna and Virupanna, Vijayanagara governors of Penukonda. Built in the Vijayanagara style, it contains some of the finest sculptures and mural paintings.
Lepakshi is a small village located in the Anantapur District, in Andhra Pradesh, India.
