This an external, evening view of the old, Medieval town of Rhodes. You can see part of the walls, the Palace of the Grand Master, the Clock (the best viewpoint of the old town), the Minaret of the Suleyman Mosque, and part of the trench around the walls, a good place for a walk.

The old town of Rhodes isn't an open air "museum" but a lively town with 10-15.000 people still living inside. It is declared a World Heritage Site.

Some info from WIKIIPEDIA, about the medieval era of Rhodes:
"In 1309 the Byzantine era came to an end when the island was subjugated by forces of the Knights Hospitaller. Under the rule of the newly named "Knights of Rhodes", the city was rebuilt into a model of the European medieval ideal. Many of the city's famous monuments, including the Palace of the Grand Master , were built during this period.

The strong walls which the Knights had built withstood the attacks of the Sultan of Egypt in 1444, and of Mehmed II in 1480. Ultimately, however, Rhodes fell to the large army of Suleiman the Magnificent in December 1522. The few remaining Knights were permitted to retire to the Kingdom of Sicily. The Knights would later move their base of operations to Malta. The island was thereafter a possession of the Ottoman Empire for nearly four centuries. The Rhodes blood libel in February 1840 was one of many false accusations against the Jews of Europe. The Jews of Rhodes were accused of ritually murdering a Christian boy."

How reminiscent of my city!
The old Byzantine city walls, a spire and minaret together...
This is also how Istanbul is, a city of peace and unity for ages.
The compo of natural and artificial light makes a great share!
Cheers Irakli :)

Hi Hercules,

a wonderful light at this relaxing place... the palms and the lit tower are two counterpoints that catch the eye..
Cheers Christian

Geia Sou Hercules,
the warm evening light provides good ambience, the ancient walls rise above and the sky is amazingly light and blue at this special magical hour. A well balanced picture that brings cheer and comfort. Well done.
Kind Regards.

Hi Hercules,
Great view of the old city with all the elements included.... ancient walls, the palace and the clock tower. The lighting is superb, and the "blue hour" sky provides good contrast to the architectural coloured elements. The well lit clock tower acts as a beacon within the image. Well captured.
Cheers Grant

Hi there Hercules,

Long time ago huh? Hey..nice photo you present here, a lovely blue hour shot. The high POV and wide angle show the most of the area, and this, I figure touristic, spot, so deserted..creates a nice mood together with the light and colours. Good compo, nice bright sky but also details in the shades! Fine exposure and compo. Tfs and a nice weekend.
Emiel.

hola Hercules,
Una magica foto de la hora azul. La expocision esta muy bien hecha donde no hay zonas ni subexpuestas ni sobreexpuestas. Y eso es dificil de conseguir con la luz que tenias a ese momento.
Muy buen trabajo
Saludos

Hello Hercules,
The palace looks crisp against the blue sky as one can sense how vast the fortress is. There is good light coming to the right side of the frame. Tech details as always are superior. Greetings, Danilo

Hola Hercules,

Muy buena toma en la hora azul. Me parece que hay un poquito de luz del sol en las murallas de la antigua ciudad. Los colores están magníficos. Me gustan mucho lo perfecto encuadre y los detalles.

Un buen domingo para ti.

Hi Hercules

Nicely layered into horizontal thirds, with splendid colour contrasts & sharpness. I particularly like the golden lit tower at top right, contrasting against the blue sky. Tfs!

Hi Hercules,

excellent capture of the blue hour. The contrast of the warm that comes from the architectures with the dark blue sky makes this shot a pleasant one to see. Very fine sharpness treatment. Great work!

Carlos

Josep

Wonderful colours captured before the dark on this historic place, the blue sky really make it more beautiful. Well job, Hercules. Thanks :-)

Purple shadows always make me think of Impressionist painting. The shadows are cool, the remaining sunlight is warm. A very nice, calm image. I've only seen Rhodes from the airport, on my way to Karpathos.
I will have to correct that someday...
