Photographer’s Note
I took this at the British Museum with my Sony Cybershot SLR. It seems I was there at just the right time of day!

I disagree with the above critique. Nothing to do about the vertical axis when you use a distorting wide-angle lens like this. Except maybe shoot it in landscape mode and then crop to just the center. Anyway, I like the composition, but why not take full advantage of the 800-pixel maximum size?

Hello Heather
Welcome to TE!
Great to see your 1st post on architecture shot.
I find this is an interesting photo
.pov is great
.composition is ok but other choices?
.sharpness is fine
.light is great, a bit of shadows
.skylight roof is main focus? It appears to the center of roof frames which comes to a central point but is blocked by the wall
.great parallel lines of buildings at sides
Your subject of focus is important in composing the view before pressing shutter. That is great place to shoot. It can be made more interesting though. Your low angle of shot works well here.
Just my opinion.
This makes a good post entry, keep shooting and sharing, TE is a good place to sharpen your photography skills, and we will see good photos from you soon.
TFS, cheers

Makes me want to go!
The structure casts a great shadow, and the people give a good perspective in your shot.
Great take on a wonderful building.

I think this picture is demonstrating three 'ages' of classical architecture (the neo-classical, the modernist - the treatment of the reading room exterior - and the hi-tech). The composition almost appears to be a collage, with a diagonal line linking the sweep of the stairs and the roof line of the building. The inclusion of people ensure there is a good sense of scale.
