[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Insomnia this morning, so decided to get up and takes some sunrise photo before leaving for Machu-Picchu.
I had to find the guardian, to unlock the door. Once outside, wondered if it was a good idea after all. Well, I witnessed, what was once a proud Inca city, slowly waking up, going through all the early morning routine, much like here.Getting ready to work, waiting for the truck, serving as a communal bus; children walking to school; the garbage truck taking the refuses, the old lady washing her now empty refuse basket in the small stream; the taxi driver waiting for the first tourist; the first vendor getting his stall ready in the market square just behind me, offering me batteries or cards for my camera, all this while the rest of the group was still sleeping, including my wife, who knew where I went.
I just have witnessed the soul of the city,
the one where Manco, the last Inca, took refuge, flying from Sacsahuaman (pronounced: saxywoman),on a horse taken from the spanish. Here, he stopped the Spanish, forcing them to retreat to Cuzco, where they reinforce before coming back, and this time, with more men and better arms, took the city. But again, Manco flew and took refuge in Vilcabamba.

That morning, a stranger, alone, I felt as secure as I would be in my small village. A memorable morning.

HELLO CAM....
NICE PICTURE...
GREAT COLOR........
NICE CLOUDEY REGION...
WELDON.....,.,.,..................'''''''''

Mes yeux se remplissent d'or.
Merci Charles.
Claire

Charles, if this is what you're up to, you'll need to have insomnia a bit more often. You've put up a fine spectacle of light and shadow, contrast and color here. I like the depth and levels of this image, the upthrust of mountain and the cavorting of the clouds. Nice work!

Hi Charles
An amazing range of colours, a beautiful picture.
Too bad about those ads, post and antenna, but are not your fault.

Hello Charles,
Clouds, strong winds, grey grey grey...that was my part when visiting this town and the ruins. I did not stay the night here what you did, and getting up early really paid off. That light over the mountain is striking. The v-shape that is getting all the sun looks like golden light and that deep blue with parts of white clouds looks great in the contrast. For me a picture i would have like to make.
Have a nice weekend, Henk

Hi Charles,
The scenery is absolutely wonderful. But more important is the way you present it to us, with magical use of this light, and superb composition. The colors are also superb.
I wish you a great weekend. Best regards. Salvator.

The lighting is tremendous in this shot. I like the V shapes in the composition. Lovely colours.
Best wishes
Mark

bonjour Charles !
amicalement
alain

Charles,

Nice feeling this shot gives with the mountain lit and the fg dark, kind of what motivates explorers... Sky is awesome, great capture.

Greg

Bonjour Charles,

Bon weekend.

Pierre

Insomnia for me too. What's new? But I didn't have this kind of scene waiting outside the door, or Machu Picchu to visit. Your shot has an astounding light on those slopes and the distant peak. I like the way the peak towers over this humble village, still in partial darkness. Marvellous photo and great note.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Charles,

the light management here is superb. I like the illuminated mountains on the back contrasting with a graceful dark area on the foreground. Impressive and attractive. Well done!

Carlos

Bonjour Charles,

Hi Charles. What a stunning landscape you have here not to mention a knockout of a sky. I'm assuming you used a polarizer here. You also had the perfect light. Awesome shot Charles!!

Salut Carles,
Bravo

Hi Charles,
Excellent study in color and contrast in addition to shadow detail. I also like the small sign in front of the building. Nice work, Mike

Bonjour, Charles,
this is just awesome! The POV overlooking the rooftops and that stunning light on the mountain side is simply wonderful! I love the shadows the clouds make and the way there is a stray cloud down below the rest. Peru is certainly a most beautiful place! Nicely done!! Merci and warm regards,
Shelly

A bientôt.

Hello Charles,

That is very nice, certainly the soft colours.
Wonderful contrast between the light dark beneath, and the spectacular clouds to the sky.
My compliments for this one.
Thanks for sharing.

Marc

Hi Charles,
You were really suffering in fact from a specialized type of insomnia - photographer's insomnia, otherwise known as an itching to catch that beautiful sunrise scene with both eye and camera. What I appreciate most about this photo is the great way the light and shadow effects are handled. The main scene is not at all overexposed, and in the dark foreground one can still appreciate the silhouetted objects. First rate, Charles. Thanks also for you note concerning the 20D lens we share and the softness factor. Cheers from the west coast...a demain.
John

To be there and to stay there...
Just to be able to obtain the pictures like this one, Charles...

Oh, well...
They say: There is ALWAYS a chance !

great place. great photo.

Ollantaytambo! The sound of the name of this place sounds so interesting. I have been there myself, but only for a short moment iof some hours and had to take the harsh light of the middle of the day. Nothing to be compared with this jewel shot. I wish I would had the same light and clouds as you did. Fantastic shot!!!
Regards, Peter

Charles bonsoir.
Jacques
