| This is a shot of the Harris Fire the night before the picture posted yesterday was taken. The Santa Ana wind had died down and fire's natural propensity to run uphill was carrying up what I believe is Echo Mountain. The dark angle on the right side appears to be the Eastern edge of Barber Mountain. |

Hi Chris,
One can feel the menace of the approaching fire; those glowing colors seem to radiate heat even on my screen. You really got amazing sharpness for 1/30, handheld; especially those little trails of smoke that follow the fire roaring uphill. I wondered if there was a reason for the f 22 or if it was just due to the very natural pressure of the moment.

Chris,
Good shot. Having tried to take many fire pictures myself, I know how difficult it is to capture the intensity of the scenes.
Your comment about the fires tendency to run uphill reminds me that the updrafts on mountainsides, due to the rising heat of a fire, frequently reach over a hundred miles per hour and can actually blow down structures.

Hi Chris,
This view is a shock even on the screen. I can't imagine in reality.
