This man lives in little town of Bolshaya Guba near Medvezhegorsk in nothern russian region of Karelia. Full of lakes and insects, Karelian nature is closely similar to Finnland just across the border, but people do differ.

Grm. That kind of villages are really something, even if they are not representative at all now, as only 15% of population live there. All who could left the villages in 60-70-80s, so... What's left is left. Sorry.

Outstanding photo. I like it very much. The expression and the face of that man tells me he's a lovely character. Great photo though. The shadows and light are perfect. The composition as well. Top class. And the best thing is that cigarette. Just great job. Bravo. Keep posting! Cheers!

This is a lovely shot with good lighting and the right dof to highlight the man. I am particularly impressed with the details of the smoke from the cigarette and the face which is full of character. A nice catch and a brilliant shot!!

Hi Jakub,
I arrived here from Kath's site to complement you and your note - That fountain is a BIG improvement over that tank and I expect the pink was a big improvement over its natural colors.

This is an amazing work!! The detail of the subject is impeccable, the perfect DOF removes the BG from competition. I can almost hear this old fellow's slurred speech. Was he explaining something to you or giving you a scolding for taking a picture? He clearly needs the fence to hold him up - a very true slice of life.

Just splendid. This shot is perfect.
Expression of the guy is well caught. Framing is excellent. Contrast and sharpness are high level.
I do not understand why this picture is only 14 points rated.

i missed this one sine it's not tremendously appealing from the thumbnail. But once opened what a portrait! Quite some character, this old man
I'm just a bit disturbed by the overexposed part at the left (a lake ?), maybe it'd have been worth to crop at the left just after the wooden door. Try !
