Photographer’s Note

The Steingletscher is a valley glacier south of the Sustenpass in the Urner Alps, in the East of the canton Bern. It has a length of 4.3 km and covers an area of nearly 8 km².

In the small ice age around the middle of the 19th century, the Steingletscher was approximately 1 km longer than today. During the withdrawal of the glacier, a stone lake formed from around 1940 in the plain of the earlier glacier tongue.
