Photographer’s Note

Vatopediou Monastery was founded ca. 980 AD, on the site on a church dated in 4th or 5th century (and, perhaps, on a diocese's seat) by three noblemen from Andrianoupolis (Edirne). It is the biggest in buildings, the second biggest in building site area (and in Athonite hierarchical order, also), the richest in byzantine and post-byzantine treasures and the most-populated on Athos.
