Photographer’s Note

Riding on a bus in Taipei, I noticed this young child who was sitting in the seat behind me. Barely tall enough to peer out the window, as you can see, only his nose and eyes were above the ledge he was holding onto.

I quickly grabbed my camera, estimated the distance and exposure, prefocused and shot the photo over my shoulder without looking through the viewer. (Being a foreigner on a local bus draws enough attention. Being a foreigner on a bus, taking photographs of other people on the bus draws much more attention than I'd like).

Far from technical perfection, this grainy, somewhat blurry photo has a unique perspective at a young boy staring out a window and looking at the world around him. That's good enough for me!
