Photographer’s Note
Housemaids of Bengal
Who, like silent shadows,
Come and go,
leaving their touch
On our small houses.
[Workshop has a version with a bit more detail in the darker region]

hi animesh,
you still bravely float in the sea of "difficult" photography...difficult but so pleasant to contemplate...unique style, sensitive soul...
love your works,
bw, j.
(funny, i'd welcome more grain...:-))

Hi, Animesh.
No, is no too grainy...
Is a picture like a painting...beautiful, dreamy, moody...
I just would like crop the top (window)...
Best regards. Grazyna.

a great one... the mood is here. Intimate scene indeed and not so grainy! ; )

This is very sensitive and expresses the invisibility of the denizens of that shadow land.
How does grain matter in an image like this?
Very good.

I'm with Jerzy - I think this needs more grain not less. It's all a bit smooth and soft (for my taste) and I think added texture and grain would improve it.
I like how you captured the light streaming through the window, and the fact that nothing is really in-focus doesn't bother me. I think it's the light that is the key to this shot, and I think I'd have preferred it with less of the darkness on the right and more of the light. Maybe you could have shifted the framing over a bit.
Interesting work Animesh.
Cheers,
Ben

Wow, not many would get away with this one, Animesh. Not many would dare! And yet your veiled treatment is totally coherent and justified by the subjct matter. One catches vage glimpses of the woman in the gloom.
Extraordinary.
Cheers,
Francis

I just can't believe you think of taking a photo like this. I don't like to make qualitative comparisons among people on this site, but you are really working on a different level than amost everyone else. Forget the workshop. The original post is the one. It needs all that darkness, of course, in order for that glimmer of light along her shoulder and her hair to try to penetrate it and bring her to life. Best, -Hugh

Beautifully dreamy and metaphoric.
Again the Plossu reference comes to my mind with the "unbearable softness" of his images (this is how Denis Roche, a french photographer fan of Plossu, qualified his work).
I would love to see it printed on thick textured matte paper.

Poetry in itself, Animesh. The soft velvety texture in the filtered light fills the frame with a special feeling of gentleness and care. Utterly gorgeous work, a true dedication.

Hi Animesh,
don't remember how I stumbled here but I am grateful for it. I do not know how to express my thoughts, many things already said about technical aspects.
I prefer this to the workshop,no doubt, and this is magical. Your poem is, with its insight into this woman's life in a few written words. Your picture is, because you wrote it with the light.
Regards

It's like a painting but in B&W. I like the sensibility expressed in your photograph.

hi Animesh,
long time I did not see any pics in TE..I found myself here after a weird thread about a photo dedicated to you :)
very very beautiful...I love the softness, the rounds of the woman blending into darkness (or coming out of darkness; maybe better :)...
