1.10 p.m. - Looking out towards the sea from Kota Kinabalu lies 5 islands ( Gaya, Manukan, Mamutik, Sapi and Sulug ). These 5 islands and their coral reefs make up the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Parks, a national marine reserve aiming to protect and regenerate the fragile marine eco system surrounding Kota Kinabalu.

Gaya Island is only 10 minutes off KK and covers an area of 1,546 ha ( 3500 acres). It has a floating population of around 6,000 and the eastern section is largely occupied by an illegal Filipino colony – Kampung Pondo. But nestled away in a beautiful bay on the other far side of the island is the Gayana Island Eco Resort.

I took this shot as the plane took off from Tanjung Aru , and as I was seated next to the window I decided to polish up my skills on taking shots from the plane. The glass window was not that clean and I was not hoping very much. However, the result was unexpected.

Great result, considering the dirty (and probably scratched) window.
There is a smudge over the beach part in the upper left part, but it doesn't ruin the overall impression of a real beautiful place.
Besides, imop the top view more than makes it up for flaws like that:)
Looks great

Hola Aloysius.
Superb panoramic view of Gaya Island, beautiful turquoise colors of the sea, very well captured through the airplane window. Interesting to see how the houses are built on the water. Good composition, colors and sharpness.
Well done. TFS.
Best regards.

Nice bird view with fantastic colors
It's to have a lot of people living here
Cheers
JP

Hi Aloysius,
What a wonderful result, how lovely to see those floating villages from high up above.
Yes well worth trying a shot or two.

Quel fantastique endroit! Les couleurs de la mer sont absolument somptueuses et on pardonne bien volontiers les quelques zones un peu floues dues à la vitre de l'avion.
Amicalement
JJ

Hi Aloysius

A superb aerial shot overlooking the intricate patterns formed by the Ayer Kampong orwater village. A marvellous green & yellow palette formed by the varying water depths. Tfs! Bagus sekali!

Hej Aloysius,
A fantastic view from a great POV down to these islands. The colours of the water are most beautiful and I like to see the many houses along the coast, creating a nice kind of pattern. Good photo from inside a plane, thanks for sharing!
Regards,
Lars

Hi Aloysius,
This POV from the air gives an excellent view of this place. Fascinating to see all that boats. But the composition is also very attractive with all it green colours and freakish forms.

Hi Aloysius,
Indeed, this is amazingly clear, considering you were shooting through the dirty glass of a plane. I really like the shadow effects here. The scene resembles a child's toy set. The lighting is also well controlled with a well chosen exposure level. All the best, Aloysius...later.
John

It almost looks like a satellite picture, with the difference that it has perfect colors! This must be paradise! Interesting the traffic of boats there!

Hello Aloysius
Considering how difficult it is to shoot through plane windows, this is wonderful work. Beautiful green waters and interesting to see so many houses on the water. Your note is a good accompaniment to this lovely picture

Hi Aloysius,
Great frsaming, detail and color. It is always surprising when one gets anything through those airplane windows. I love arial photos, they give a unique overview of a place. Interestingly this pinpoints a BIG conflict between your note and reality. This is a marine park, to protect the fragile coral and there must be a thousand boats, each with at least one deadly anchor to smash the fragile coral.
HLJ, pat

Hello Aloysus
Very nicely captured,
it came out very well the colours, textures and geographical features are wonderful
well done

Interesting aerial shot to enjoy this place, that seems to be lovely. Good cropped and realization in hard conditions, I suppose.
