Photographer’s Note

This is #2 of my Moroccan pics.
After a day and night in Marrakech, we left the city in a small van for a drive across the mountains to the Sahara. Not just any mountains, but the incredible High Atlas! Even though I spent the whole 10 hours being sick due to the twisting roads and crazy driving, this was the most amazingly beautiful journey I have ever taken (and I have spent a lot of time in transit!). We only stopped once in the mountains, and this was taken at that stop.
The shot is of surrounding hills (the mountains themselves are several thousand meters high) and cherry trees, which were in bloom everywhere in the mountains, even in the 45-degree (F) weather of mid-February. I tried to saturate the colors in pp, but the gray-blue cast is true to life. The mountains are incredibly forbidding because of the silent, oppressive atmosphere, and this high up we were starting to get into the clouds. I can't describe the awe I felt going through these mountains (which got much more impressive even higher up)--humans seem no match for them at all!
