Photographer’s Note
I believe this is Expressway 35 on the way to Muju. On this trip, I braved and borrowed a car to drive around Korea. I was pleasantly surprised to find very nice freeways and highways.
Overall, I think it's more expensive and harder to build these roads in Korea compared to my home in Southern California. Seventy percent of Korea are hills and mountains. The only way to build a decent straight road is by cutting them, drilling holes through the limestone, and bridging the gaps.
The country now seem to have a good network of these expressways and highways (so called in Korea High Speed and National Roads). Here in Southern California, things are wide open and flat (and not so green).
