Photographer’s Note
I took this shot while lounging around at a backpackers in Umzumbe, South Africa. The dog in the background is one of two Boarbulls and two Ridgebacks that the owners kept as pet/guard dogs. Loveable during the day (even being backed down by a relatively small mantis), but would not even think twice about taking out a nice chunk of an unexpected visitor's hind quarters.

Hello Aaron. An astonishing photo. Even with opened photo one must search for a long time, until one discovers the actual motive. Outstanding. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Aaron,
Not an easy one to conceive. But it pays back with a longer look. Point of view of a mantis. Guidbook giving idea of location. Correct focus. Background a bit restless. Would be a real winner if dogs eyes were within the frame.

While it's true that having captured the dog's eyes in the composition would have made this an even better photo, this is still outstanding! One of the most innovative compositions I've seen here on TE. Very nice work!
