Photographer’s Note
lost pier
Located at the Baltic Sea, this old pier is almost gone now. An old fisherman still comes here every morning with his horse. The horse s left to eat, while the fisherman checks his nets.
The pier was build a long time ago. During the Soviet period, the beach was the border, and after the Cuba crises, it was closed from sunset till dawn.
Fishing activities were concentrated in harbors, and places like this lost it's function.
In the evening, tractors would make grooves in the sand, and in the morning soldiers inspected the beach for signs of people crossing the beach.
There is another pier near Limbazi, and maybe even more . . .
this is part of small serie about the Latvian coast, and how the fishing ‘industry’ evolved over a century;

Hi David! Thanks for this peaceful and very well-balanced picture. I like the perspective effect on the middle and the textures on the sand. Also the overall bluish-tone is very calming.. Interesting note too.
Have a nice day,
Jarkko

Hello David
As all the ruins, there is a melancholy connected to a destruction which feels well in this photo. The centring is completed with these pickets which move on the sea as to drown itself there. Colors and reflections very sweet are emphasized well with the black frame.
Regards
Diane
