Photographer’s Note
Another view of this palace that was the residence of the family of Christopher Columbus for most of the 16th century.
If you are interested in reading some interesting notes on the city of Santo Domingo and its History, you should go to Peter Boehringer's TE gallery, namely his photo featuring the gate that lies below the wall on the lower right. Maybe I would have decided going on holidays again to Dominican Republic anyway, but having noticed Peter's enthusiasm on the country surely made my decision much easier.
I posted a WS with the gate that lies below the wall on the lower right. I thought that it was funnier to attach it to Peter's post.
I am sorry, Emile, for not having processed anything from Jarabacoa and Puerto Plata yet. ;-)

Update 5-Jun-2008: I posted a WS with another POV of this square.

HI Jose,
THis is a very beautiful photo. A great show of this architecture. Good exposure and the cloud looks great there on the BG. Taken from a great angle.
Well done

Hola Jose.
Excellent shot of the Alcazar de Colon, your composition is superb, you got a good use of your POV to be able to include in the shot not only the impressive architecture but also the surroundings which are part of the Alcazar, the wall on the right side used to go around the city of Santo Domingo during the colonial era to try to defend the city from invaders and the gate that is located in the lower part that communicates the port with the city. Great colors and light, also very good sharpness.
I'm still waiting your shots taken in Puerto Plata and Jarabacoa.
Un fuerte abrazo amigo.

Salut Jose,
L'inclusion du muret an bas a droite accroche bien l'oeuil.
Bonne photo architecturale!

Super nette, super lumineuse.

I prefer this one to your previous post from here. The top of the wall makes a great lead-in and the Alcazar is closer, enabling more of the architecture to be seen. I'm still a bit confused about the geography. I assume the archway in the WS is below this wall as we can see the top of it, but from your previous photo I thought it was on the other side of the building. I mean I thought your previous POV was to the far right of this image. Rob (my husband) says I have no sense of direction; I think he's right (women are from Venus........)
I just saw your note to me telling about the WS so I did a WS of my own on your WS. I think it might be a bit drastic for you, but see what you think. This time if you reply TE might send an alert.

Maria do Carmo

Olá José,
that's a interesting and appealing one, a bit a challenge for the eye. The wall of the balustrade at the right runs a bit out of the capture , comes back and leads to a door. Below some diagonal lines and with a new angle of perspective the building. Crossing lines in my head and a mixtuure of old (a lot) and new (some details - bridge, metal balustrade below, lamp). Good colours and excellent textures, all that below a lovely sky. Well done and not easy as it is close to lunch time light.

Jose, nice shot, great colors. I can feel the heat of the area, the colors are very nicely warm. The textures across the frame are great, the details are really fine. Great capture.
