Photographer’s Note

Lunch time at the orphan village.
There are many orphans in our district. To help with the situation, the Clarens community has built a large canteen. Every day after school, orphans of all ages are given lunch, supplied by volunteers. Afterward they do their homework under supervision, while non-school-going little ones are given activities like drawing, colouring-in and also play on the jungle-gym. Late afternoon the children go home to their various care-givers.

Nice black and white shot. Seems like he is enjoying his lunch.Is it a school canteen or something? I see some other kids in the background.

I''m really not sure why black and white is so forceful; all I know is that it is! I like the humour in the eyes of the boy and how the light is reflecting there! Good composition!

The focus on the face is precise. Very powerful! I wish you wrote the story behind the photo too. They are eating and someone's learbning at the background?!

hi Irmgard, this is a powerful image. I remember you showing it at the photo club the other day. I'd use F5.6 to have less depth, so the background can be slightly blurred, but as a subject and together with the comprehensive info you've provided it is a winner.
