The Great Windmill of Skerries Photo

Photographer’s Note

This windmill ar Skerries in north county Dublin, Ireland, is known as " The Great Windmill of Skerries".
This mill was was probably built towards the end of the 18th century. Wind mills were used for grinding corn. The "cap" or pointed roof of this wind mill was turned, using the long pole on the right, so that the arms or "sails" could always be pointed into the wind.

Today, Skerries Mills is a tourist attraction open to the public. There are two wind mills on site, as well as a water mill. Certainly worth a visit in you are anywhere north county Dublin.

This one is an eye-catcher - even as a thumbnail! A striking picture with big areas for the single colours and many clear lines. I like this buildup very much. A really beautiful scenery ...

I'm just trying to imagine people hauling on that pole every time the wind changed! It probably didn't change too often, then.

Very evocative picture, with good use of a few strong colors and shapes.

I love the saturated colors and simple lines here, Tim. I am especially struck by the clean lines of the rope fence in the fg. Nicely composed. (Though I hope you got a "head-on" shot, too).
