Photographer’s Note

The historically rich city of Chartres, dominated by its superb cathedral, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, deserved to have a popular festival. It was naturally essential to make the best use of such a heritage envied by so many. Chartres is also known for its wonderful stained glass windows : heritage and light had to be linked together.

Chartres en Lumières was under way. September 2003 was the beginning of a great adventure, an artistic and human adventure and an encounter between the citizens of Chartres and visitors.

Here is a picture of the North side of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
The lighting is static one (the royal side has an animated lighting) and is very colorful... maybe too much.
It's simply amazing how precise is the lighting.

I have post in WS a BW version who gives a quite strange atmosphere, maybe more enigmatic ? Which one do you prefer ?

No filter (yes it's true) on this picture, just a tripod use.

Merveilleuses ces couleurs, cette port d'église est supermement cadrée et mise en vlaeur.

je vois que tu as fait le déplacement!!
Une belle réussite que la version couleur et sans public devant un petit tour de force!!
Du très bon boulot pour nous rappeler que vraisemblablement les statues des cathédrales étaient peintes à l'origine.

Le workshop noir et blanc est plus classique, c'est pour cela que je préfère cette version éclairée. C'est vrai que la projection de lumière est parfaitement réalisée et très précise et cela donne un côté baroque. En tout cas c'est un cliché très original, félicitations.

Je préfère la version en couleurs. On est si peu habitué de voir ces statues si colorées.
Belle utilisation du grand angle.

Personnellement, cadré de cette façon, je la préfère en couleur. C'est là que se trouve l'intérêt de la photo qui veut nous montrer les illuminations réalisés sur cette cathédrale.
Le grand angle s'imposait effectivement pour cette photo et lui confère et un effet intéressant.
Une photo qui donne envie d'aller voir ça en vrai ...

nice the view of this superb cathedral with this colourful facade that contrasted great with the black of the rest of the frame.Very nice graphistic photo and at the some time a minimalistic one.Excellent composition with a sharp eye to can see these 'details'.Well done Yves.

I like this one very much!Plenty of colors gives a feeling of an old painting.Excellent idea to present the famous Cathedral in the way.Nice,different and interesting!

Bon hopla sans hesiter moi je prefere cette version en couleurs, j'aime trop le relief particulier que ca donne aux structures, pas la premiere photo qui est postee de ce spectacle mais on s'en lasse pas !

Salut Yves, a beautiful low light take on this famous facade. The colours are really dashing and the compo and the management of the light suit them well. I can't decide between the colour and BW - the BW version is kinda grim, I like it too. Great work!

Belle qualité du rendu des couleurs..t'as poussé tout le monde pour te placer aussi bien?le relief du tympan apparait bien nettement,sans hesiter la version couleur a ma preference,
