Photographer’s Note
On the ferry, waiting for the departure from the Livorno harbour to Sardinia.
Alone on the top deck. Searching mom or dad.
We travelled with Corsica/Sardinia Ferries...and we had so many troubles this year.
one week before the departure they called me by phone:
"Sorry sir, but the new ship that we bought it's in late. The ferry naming and launching will be in September, so now we don't have any ferry for the day that you booked.
You'll must change the day...."
"What a great news! Thanks!"
And we changed the day. 2 days before.
One week before the back in Milan, Corsica/Sardinia Ferries called me on the phone:
"Oh Jesus...what happened..."
"Hello Sir, our fast-ferry for the route Olbia-Piombino is fired during the past week, with 200 people on board, during a night crusie to Piombino, but there weren't casualties...so, now we must change your reservation"
"FANTASTIC! Thanks!"
And so we changed not only the day, but the company, using the Moby Lines on the same route Olbia-Piombino.
The original one was a fast ferry, (3 hours on the sea), the Moby Lines one was maybe the old ferry that i ever used (7 hours...).
It was crowded of tourists that as us changed reservation for the Corsica/Sardinia Ferries troubles, wild riots at restaurants, people sitted everywhere.
Totally we had 5 days more of vacation thanks to Corsica/Sardinia Ferries, and so i payed 5 days more of rent of the villa in Sardinia.
I payed the one way ticket with Moby Lines at the last minute many more than the original one, so totally i spent more than 1200,00 euros more thanks to Corsica/Sardinia Ferries!
Now i'm considering for the next year a Ballon from Milan to Olbia...

Paolo, i read and read your note, and in the end, seeing this single sentence burst me into laughter. You have a great sense of ironic humor :))
I wonder whether that tiny boy found his parents amongst those hundreds of people who look like having seen something very interesting in the sea (or is it your son???)
The sky looks like you may have had a catastrophic voyage amongst huge waves, but this may also be my fantasy. Blue red contrast is awesome. Cheers,
Deniz

Hi, Paolo.
Well seen and well composed.
Lonely boy in the middle of this place makes a strong impression.

Hi Paolo
Lol at the humorous title! The boy does indeed look lost. Good colour, sharpness, lighting & pov. Tfs!

Hi Paolo.
It's great the contrast of the kid with all the people. I suppose we will be looking for his parents.
The colours of the sky adds a plus in the picture because, maybe, it's what his parents are feeling...

ciao paolo,
this one is really good - lonely kid, abandoned, without any "support" nor care from anybody from that crowd...
apart from minor details (like cloning away that line at the top) this image works really well,
the clouds gathering above this scene adds a lot of dramma to this scene...
best wishes, j.

Hello Paolo,
I read your story with the ferry boat, this is always a disappointment, but your holiday was very well. The next euros come with a lot works.
Lonely boy in the middle of this place makes a strong impression, exactly the helicopter guide. Very well done. Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice day,
John.

Ciao Paolo,
foto molto carina...mi piace la centralità del bambino mentre tutti gli adulti gli voltano la schiena.
per quanto riguarda il traghetto...prossima volta fai fare la prenotazione da un abitante di lourdes!
(scherzo ovviamente! cmq..situazione fantozziana)

Your little fellow couldn't be better placed inside the yellow circle. Maybe he waits for the helicopter. I also see a British sky!!
I enjoyed you note; it reminds me of an earlier one about booking your round-the-world trip. You must have a travel jinx. Remind me not to go to the same place as you at the same time ;D
I wouldn't risk the balloon next year; I would go for paragliders ;D
Being a nosy woman I read your conversation with Deniz and I must congratulate you on your good news. Congratulations!

Hi Paolo
What an adventure. Having taken Moby Lines from Olbia to Livorno, I remember what a horrible boat it is and that the journey is so long. For next years holidays, I thinks it's the only choice from Piombino too Elba but at least it's only an hour. I don't know about the balloon though. I was 1/2 hour in one a few weeks ago and became nauseous. Either due to the gas or the fact that I had the flu.
Anyway I like how you captured the boy with his toes pointed together, how he's so alone with all the adults looking the other way. Great contrast between the turquoise of the boat and the dark grey sky.
Regards
Nikki

What a special and great great moment! The kind staying there alone and composed with the other people looking to the other sides around and the harbor crane works fantastic.

Questa è troppo bella Paolo, tutti con l'attenzione altrove e lui da solo in questo spazio vuoto che si fa fotografare, bellissima, complimenti per il colpo d'occhio e la realizzazione.
Ciao

Great little boy alone on the helistrip with everybody around ignoring him. I cloned the left part of the sky because this cable is just ugly. Hope you don't disagree.

Hi
I love shots that says a complete story..very nice.
The space created by the blue on the ground and the sky free of people creates a beautiful backdrop for the colorful line of people and the little girl facing the other side..takes all the attention.
Brilliant composition

hej Paolo
In a way the image has cold tone, the shipsdeck could actually be an indoor ice, and the sky behind talking about rain. you framed a certain mood of insecurity in this one, but it is a bloody good picture.

Ciao Paolo,
Questa è troooppo bella! Mi piace un casino il bimbetto tutto "solo" all'interno di questo grosso spazio azzurro che contrasta bene col grigio del cielo. Bravo!

Hello, with such photos and story, you should,...you must write an illustrated book concerning your holidays!
I can't beleive you had to pay for their matters. You should write to direction to complain! Your son is really cuty there lost in the midle of the crowd.
Regards.
Claude.
