Photographer’s Note

... and one of my favorite young models, Zelal, is still day-dreaming (NB : you have met her before, there are 4 other photos of her in my theme and if you click on the next photo, you'll be guided to all of them and finally come back on this image).

... while having a pre-taste of the tomatoes offered for breakfast (delicious tomatoes : like everyday, and in every household, this time of the year - for a closer look on what was available that day at breakfast, please look here)...

(I was the guest of this family for 2 days, in the village of Gülheyran, 25km from Kars : a very hospitable family, with only Zelal as a child - but a baby brother or sister has now arrived I guess ; a not-so-poor family, which has recently sold its whole herd of cows as they have decided to migrate to Ankara where most of the sons of the family are working in the construction sector - they'll return here each summer for a few month, as the nostalgy of the village is so strong...)

Hello Cath,
Again a great interior shot ; with very nice pov and super light (and colors of course) ! I thin you could easily creaeta a separate portflio with only Zelal's portra,ts ! Such a beautiful face and great eyes !

Bonjour, chère Catherine,
Je comprends votre démarche, chère Catherine, à propos de vos portraits. Il me semble que pour réussir de bonnes photographies de personnes, de portraits, il faut qu'il y ait une entente tacite entre les personnages et le photographe. A travers vos photographies, l'émotion est palpable et c'est ce qui fait tout le charme. Je me consacre davantage à l'architecture (une véritable passion pour le travail de nos aïeux), je ne suis pas contre les portraits, mais j'ai tendance à m'effacer dans ce style si particulier.
Bravo, pour cette photo très réussie.

Very good picture as always, I like the face of both, the little girsl (Zelal) is loosing his yes in the infint and the granma face looks very happy, I like her and I hope she can have a nice brekfast, looks delicious.

J'ai vu celle-là déjà il y a deux jours mais je n'ai pas eu (ou plutôt je n'ai pas pris) le temps de la commenter. Peut-être parce qu'elle évoque trop de choses pour moi ;).
J'adore comment tu as montré, et non pour la première fois, l'aspect de l'intimité entre la jeunesse et la vieillesse...Les grands-parents ont dans certaines cultures un grand rôle à remplir. Très souvent, ce sont eux qui s'occupent des enfants...plus que les parents. C'est souvent comme ça dans ma Pologne natale. Jusqu'à l'âge de 8 ans, j'ai été élevée par mes deux grands-mères : d'abord, par ma grand-mère maternelle, jusqu'à 4 ans, ensuite, par l'autre grand-mère. Le décor était certes plus moderne dans les années 60 en Pologne qu'il ne l'est aujourd'hui en Turquie...surtout, que j'ai été élevé dans de grandes villes...dans des appartements. Et ma grand-mère paternelle travaillait...mais toutes les deux, elles trouvaient plus de temps pour moi que mes parents, et toutes les deux me gâtaient avec leur cuisine, et avec le linge toujours amidonné...C'est dommage que dans la société moderne, les grands-parents ne tiennent plus une place aussi importante. Mais bon...souvent, ils ont leur propre vie et leur prorpes activités. Ils s'occupent toujours des petits-enfants mais moins...et ils n'oublient pas qu'ils existent aussi pour eux-mêmes...

J'aime beaucoup cette scène simple, la proximité, la complicité entre la grand-mère et la petite fille...Chacune regarde dans une autre direction mais on les sent proches dans la journée...
