Guy stoadies? Yes..he is at the Stoa..so he is stoadying!

This photo is taken at the Stoa of Attalos which is located not far from the Acropolis site in Athens, NW from it. (map info available, as always!)
This guy was studying his phone, maybe got a message, or is sending one, who knows. I guess 15 years ago we we're not even able to see this! I liked his presence as single person in the scene..Click!

Hope you like it!

[Photo scene information : the Stoa of Attalos]
The Stoa of Attalos is recognised as one of the most impressive stoa in the Athenian Agora. It was built by and named after King Attalos II of Pergamon (ruled between 159 BC-138 BC)

Typical of the Hellenistic age, the Stoa was more elaborate and larger than the earlier buildings of ancient Athens. The stoa is 115m long and 20 metres wide and is made of Pentelic marble (thus from mt. Penteli!) and limestone. Different architecture styles are used for it's outer and inner aspects. Doric, Ionic and Pergamene styles are combined.
The building is similar in its basic design to the Stoa that Attalos' brother, and predecessor as king, Eumenes II had erected on the south slope of the Acropolis next to the theatre of Dionysus. The main difference is that Attalos' stoa had a row of rooms at the rear on the ground floor that have been interpretted as shops.

The stoa is a gift to the city of Athens for the education that Pergamon received there.

The stoa was in frequent use until it was destroyed by the Heruli in 267. The ruins became part of a fortification wall, which made it easily seen in modern times. In the 1940s, the Stoa of Attalos was fully reconstructed and made into a museum with fundings given by the Rockefeller family, the Ancient Agora Museum in Athens. The building is particularly important in the study of ancient monuments because the reconstruction of
1952-1956 replicates the original building.

Hi Emiel,

Yes, I like the depth created here. Very pleasant black and white. I do agree that some human presence does make the picture. Nice detail coming from the inside of the museum in the workshop and a good note. Thanks!

Greetings, Dennis

Hello Emiel,
With a feeling of the past this composition. Not only for the black and white choice. It is the moment you captured under the impressive stoa of Attalos!Great perspective too!

Have a nice day,
Thomas

Ha, Ha,...Stoadying...Very good Emiel!!
Exceptional photo with very intelligent title and perfect prospect that makes it unique.
Quite Good the B/W output with little burned the luminous areas. But the Greek light the summertime and particularly the midday is very difficult.
Very good and informative note like always.
My best Regards.

Hello Emiel,
Le BN convient très bien à cette vue. Le pov choisi donne une très bonne profondeur à la photo. Jolie perspective aussi et tout bon cadrage.
Best regards
Denise

Hi Emiel!
To visit the agora in summertime can be really tough. I guess this guy primarily enjoys the shadow. I always liked the refreshing coolness of the Attalos Stoa when I had to show the Athenian antiquities to visitors. Your very nice shot reminds me of those moments. POV and DOF stress very effectively the specific beauty of this very interesting building.
Regards
Andreas

Hey Emiel,

A very "straight" B&W imagery. Vertical format just gives height to the composition you chose. The essential architctural features are well presented, looking solid and strong as it's function, details are sharp (as usual) well managed exposure retaining both shadow and highlight not too extreme given the situation of the harsh mid-day sun (good CPL).

I have seen many Greek architectural edifices taken in 'landscape' format, your POV just makes it the right viewpoint, showing steepness of the angle creating a strong diagonal line straight through the middle as we then see the young man busy with the modern technology gadget he is holding to.

Thanks for showing us some of the works inside the Stoa!

Nice!

Jom

Interesting lines in this shot and geometry for sure gives good motive to shot this... Only what I see as draw back is this sunny part where you lost almost all details... You should work little more on processing because there is some of details for sure in original photo... Cheers M.

jeez, athens revisited, first the view from the acropolis and now the stoa of attalos.*g* i remember this place,
beautiful but for photography a pain in the a**. i did some shots inside the hall, "dark" under the roof
and bright sunlight between the pillars from the outside.
i like your outside-view, very good along the front row of pillars and the guy is a great addition,
maybe even the element which makes the photo not so "normal".
the b&w works very well - i was just wondering if you did that because of the harsh light as the left side looks very "white" still?
anyway, i guess you had as much fun in athens as i did, good job & best wishes, thor.
