Photographer’s Note
Paddling the Deschutes River from Bear Lane to a takeout at Big River campground takes about two hours. They are only a few houses visible from this stretch of the river, unlike the section from Island Loop to the Sun River Marina. Along this section, herons fly and deer munch.

Pat this is a beautiful place. I agree the polarizer did well to the colours and overall quality of the image. Nicely composed scene with the bridge taking a strong focal point. The sharpness is good and the reflections on the water a cute bonus...Take care and thanks :-)

Hi Pat,
The polarizer is really a powerful tool, but it needs too a good photographers, and this is the case here: beautiful shot very well composed with the bridge and the border of the river in parallel attracting the sight between the trees and their reflection. The color is beautiful, in the water more dark, more intense. Great shot!
Have a nice sunday,
Angel.

Hi Pat,
I love this image! This looks like it would be heaven to paddle along its wild shores. Your colors are perfect! The reflection stunning! The vertical display is brillant! congrats. Your mention of herons bring to mind today's paddle along the Mohawk River which in my youth was so polluted you could not stand the smell. Today I spotted at least 50 blue herons and one nest sight. The concervatives of the day said it would be much too expensive to clean up but those Godless Commy liberals had their way so we and our grandchildren can enjoy the river.

Helloooooooooooooooooo Patricia ;-)
Aha, thanks to the polarizer you really found a location where you needed it and that really shows. Not only for the sky, but reducing the reflection in the water gave you this beautiful dark tone color in the water.
Isn't that a wonderful useful tool such a filter, i never go out without him.
The balance between the earth and sky is wonderful presented and the bridge is a perfect barrier for showing that.
Without a human element the picture looks very serene and peaceful...thanks to the polarizer.
Will post a heavy polarizer shot myself tomorrow...taken at the most beautiful landscape on earth ;-)
Have a nice sunday, Henk

Hi Pat,
Indeed the polarizer can make such a difference without any PP. The reflections here are divine, and I love the way the bridge bisects the scene. One can tell there is a slight shift in the light toward the autumn, which is great for photography. The vertical format works superbly here. Congrats.

Geat colour! The saturation and intensity of the colour really makes this a very attractive shot. Nice composition too, with that reflection tending to balance the top and bottom of the photo. Wonderful work!

Pat, the circular polarizing filter is for sure the most important filters of all. I someone doesn't have any filter this is the one to be started with. For sure! You should have taken the same shot without a filter and placed it together to show the difference, but I can imagine it without it too.
So that is the area were you castle is?

Very sharp and colorful. The reflection is really good and the little bit of grass on the right breaks it up and adds nice depth well.

Hello Pat! Beautiful shot and the vertical format works perfectly here. The results are very sharp throughout and the reflection has a nice dreamy texture to it. In addition to bringing out great detail in the sky, I think the polarizer helped even out the exposure in the scene as the sky and water are both perfectly exposed.
Well done!

What a title!...and why not? Yes the polariser did play a great role with the colours especially the blue of the sky & the rippled reflections. Good choice of the vertical compo. with the bridge right in the centre. Very nice!

Hi Pat,
I have heard some digital photographers state that filters are no longer needed for digital photography. They obviously haven't seen your photograph. A circular polarizer is every bit as useful for digital as for film. This is simply outstanding photography especially due to the fact that you took it in less than ideal conditions (harsh sunlight). The circular polarizer did wonders for you here as did your superb photographic skills.

Hi Pat,
the frame you presented is fantastic! The polarizer did a great work, indeed! The colors are brilliant and the reflections on the water are also so good, too. What to say about the excellent details of your image!
Thank you!
Athanasios.
